In parking situations my supposedly variable power steering is like manual steering. It seems like if I increase the rpms (difficult to do since my car is an automatic) then the steering becomes easier. Can anyone tell me if this is "normal" or if not what is the fix. Steers fine except in parking lot situations.

Doesn't sound normal at all. I would take it to the dealership and have them check it out.
