Lightbulb Yet another direction for the Z28 possibility?

Remember when words were dissected and people read between the lines here about the Z28 perhaps not on the way?
Lutz throws dirt at LSA-powered Z28

Consider that it was posted in the Automotive News forum that Lutz announced the G8 will live on as a Caprice...and Fritz unfortunately shut him down here:
"Bob Lutz Says A Lot Of Things, But He Works For Me"

Well...Fritz may (or may not) have turned Lutz' words around about the Z28 again...or at least keeping a flicker of hope alive...

I have owned nothing but GM vehicles my whole life… at least 30 of them. To keep me doing so #1 - Keep building them IN AMERICA. #2 - The Volt is a great idea but never abandon your performance roots. Release that Z-28 ASAP… we want it!
Here's his response...

got it.
Without implying that he is saying any more than that was already (un)said but it is one more method showing that the word is still being received.

What do YOU think those two little words in Fritz' reply means? Anything? Nothing?

i think when he said "got it" it was kind of like" yeah we hear you, so stop bugging us about it. "

I think they should just farm it out to SLP if they don't want to do it themselves and be done with it.

Wow, we are REALLY hanging on every little word re: Z28 aren't we?

FWIW, I think two one-syllable words is not much of anything to go on. I'll still be surprised to see an LSA-powered 5th Gen.

theres already companies out there doing this engine combo and other engine combos in these cars. so whats the big deal if chevy builds it or someone else. if someone wants it, theres a way to do it and someone to do it.

I think Fritz's comments have more to do with the "never abondon your performance roots" statement than anything else.

I think so too. But it's also not a bad thing to keep the "Z/28 buzz" going though.

Resale value

Z28 > $ than SS vs. Modified SS < $ than Stock SS

I think he's just acknowledging the poster's remarks. Nothing more.

I would say so...the 4thgen Z28 wasn't about much other than uncompromising performance. Would you dissagree?

I am almost certain.... as in almost 100%....and no, I'm not crazy.... that there will be a Z28 coming out within the next 18 months. I'd even entertain bets on that.

HOWEVER.....I would not take the risk of betting the LSA is the engine under the hood of the next Z28 anymore.

Don't get me wrong. It just might be. Fritz and the numbers crunchers at GM whose full time job is to match projected future sales volume of various planned and production vehicles with their effect on GM's overall CAFE numbers and then make production impact predictions might have given Bob Lutz the choice of having an LS3 Caprice SS or an LSA Camaro Z28, and Lutz (knowing how he is with niche models and the greater impact 30-40K LS3 Caprices would have on CAFE than 5-10K LSAs... despite far lower fuel economy) might have decided to go with the latter.

Or... GM will release the Z28 with an LS3 in full Corvette tune (430hp, or even a horsepower bump or unique cam) with a focus on suspension and handling....... in other words, a Z28 that's more like the Mustang GT "Track Pack".

Either way....

mark my words....

we'll see the code "Z28" on the option sheet (and on the body) again very soon.
