Will the 5th Gen Vert be a soft top?

Well I was just asking because I think the new rollover regs and airbag standards will require the top to be so much stronger that it may actually be cheaper to build the vert as a hard top rather than a soft top. That is my first question but the second is what woud it do to weight and what would it do to cost of the verts? Anyone with insight is welcome to share, as always.

I was definately looking at the convertible option as the car I wanted to order in '09 but for some reason I never thought of the hard top version. It would look so much better as a hard top. I think that the only issue would be a little more weight (slider mechanisms) and the weight of the transfered roof in the trunk. (rear wheels). Might actually help with less wheel hop with more weight on the rear wheels.

Pretty sure it'll be soft.

I sure hope so because I'd like to keep as much trunk as possible. I think the safety reg's are different for convertibles .... I recall someone saying that GM looked into seeing if they could classify the T-top cars as convertibles (they couldn't) to keep production going past '02 on the old car.

Yeah, I'd love a Hardtop Vert as well; in fact probably the only way I would buy a 'vert'.

I bet it is VERY HIGHLY UNLIKELY though...

Most likley what ever Mustang has(soft top) to keep pricing inline with it.

Hard tops are very HEAVY, and very EXPENSIVE. As always, that would raise the price and weight of every model. Not worth it.

Additionally, soft tops look a lot better then they used to, and you don't want a Vert to bad if a soft top will stop you from buying it.

The roof on the vert BMW looks like it has the same lines as the Camaro !! I wonder if GM will have color options for the ragtop ??
