I was just woundering why isn't GM pissed about the pictures of the Transformers 5th gen camaro being leaked? they where real mad about the concept ones being leaked before NAIAS. isn't it the same kind of thing?

Well considering that they hadn't gone public with the styling before the 5th gen was introduced, I'd say there's a world of difference.

The Transformers leak is a good thing, IMO. It keeps the hype going.

That's eazy.

The concept pictures belonged to and was the property of the General Motors Corperation, and were obviously smuggled onto the internet, as were the CAD of the suspension and floorpan (which also proved that the car was pretty far along, and not merely a concept).

The pictures of the car for the transformer movie not only was taken in a relatively public place with a individual's camera, but this occured nearly 6 months after the car was unveiled in Detroit, so there was no mystery in how it looked, and there wasn't an issue of impact as there was prior to it's unveiling.

If someone came across a evolved Dodge Challenger sitting in a Pep Boys garage, and snapped pictures, it would be silly to think Chrysler would be angry at this.

If anything, you would thing they planned it that way.

If you have read Scotts post in the past the reason they were upset is they did not want anyone to see the concept before it was completed.

If you note the first pictures were a mock up clay that was slit down the center and not complete.

As he noted first impressions are everything and stolen pictures before a large press release in Detroit is a breech in their planning for a large coming out party. Imagine the impact at the realease if no one had seen the car before the Detroit premier and tye cover coming off?

The Detroit gathering had been in the works for months and someone releasing the photo's made the showing just a little less special since we knew what to expect. It was a great marketing plan that was comprimised by one careless person.

The movie shots are neat but rate no where near what Scott and Chevy had planned. In this case it just keep the interest going.

Because its a convenient way to keep everyone's blood rushing for the car in the midst of a big gap between the Jan 06 NAIAS reveal and the (insert date) actual production of the Camaro.

Its not the same thing at all. When the pics were leaked of the unfinished design mule, everyones first impression of the returning Camaro was of an unfinished car. People were questioning the quality of a car that needed jackstands and fit and finish of a CLAY car. Unfortunately if someone had snapped their personal pics that would have been fine. People could have formed their opinions at that point and refused to like the car regaurdless of the finished product. Im sure some did. GM went to great lengths to keep it underwraps and in the end someone stole their own (GM's) pics and released them.

This time you saw pics of a car that hasnt been "officially" approved for production. You already knew what it looked like. It didnt compromise anything really. Im sure GM is just getting their ducks with finances Oshuwa, Willmington and Delphi and other suppliers, in a row before announcing it.
