Nothing said officially (that I'm aware of). Though it's been hinted it will be 'Z28'.

If you call a whack over the head with a 50-lb sledgehammer a "hint".

Z28 will be top-dog. I'll stake my life on it.

That doesn't bother me. As long as 'SS' isn't the midlevel. I want a midlevel, but not an 'SS' moniker. I don't care for the 'SS' due to it being so watered down. Z28 is much more interesting. (As is ZL1, Berlinetta and even IROC which I never cared much for.) I'd even prefer an RS over and SS.

Let all the other Chevrolet's get an SS model. Keep Corvette and Camaro unique.

We have never actually been flat out told that the z28 will be the top model. Red has stated that he himself would desire to see the model lineup in that fashion, but he also said something to the effect of, "whatever is decided, know there has been much thought put into it", or something to that effect.

I probably wouldn't stake my life on it, unless you are really unsatisfied with it at the moment.

I think z/28 as the top model was somethin that was stated or "confirmed" by the winky club...and assumed to be true from then on.

Correctamundo.

The general consensus is that when Camaro returns there will be at least a V6 and a V8 "SS" model. (Whether a mid-level V8 model is available hasn't been determined.) A convertible is needed/desired and may enter at the same time or later in the initial year run. Then 12-18 months down the road, Camaro's own version of the Z-06 (dubbed Z-28) will enter to compete with the Mustang GT-500. Nothing confirmed, but heavily speculated, with much input from the winky club.

I follow this board pretty closely, and have for some time. Find me a confirmation post from the "winky club". It was hinted at the possibility of the z28 being top several times, but it was also noted that nothing was set in stone yet. Some people on here seem to have a case of selective memory.

Don't be lazy Russ, do the search yourself.

Ok, I haven't found anything concrete anywhere about it. For all we know the subject could still be up in the air.

I am familiar with Red's comment "Any Chevy can be an SS, only a Camaro can be a z28". However, he also mentioned that however it turns out, know GM put a lot of thought into it. Doesn't sound absolute to me.

I follow pretty closely too, so you dont have to try to pick my wording apart, Or you would have noticed i said...stated...or...confirmed.
Back when their were the big war threads over z28 vs. ss, and yes your right, it was said that as of then, the z28 possibly could be top if nothing changes....but the idea wasnt set in stone.
But since then, everyone has generally just excepted..z28 > SS for 5th gen for now. I doubt to many things that are going to be public knowledge regarding the camaro are set in stone yet.

I always thought of the SS as an option, similar to the IROC package. You could have the Z28 with either of them, so one would think that would probably carry through if GM keeps with the Camaro heritage.

Thats an interesting possibility. I would definetly be happy with that. I would like to see a good deal of seperation between models, as well as potential for customization... So you could order a Z/28 SS, or an RS/SS... That would be cool.

All you need is three different sets of grilles, headlights, hoods, exhaust tips and spoilers... Still less then when they made that other car.
