Well, now that the spyshots have leaked...

Does it have a forged bottom end in it or do we have to go get the firing squad ready?

Forged bottom end = brilliant engineering, bravo!!! Way to go GM! I knew you could step up to the plate and do the right and sensible thing!!!

Non-forged = euthanize the morons who allowed that to happen so that their flawed genomes can no longer do any damage to the long-term vitality of the human species.

It's just a test mule. Who cares what bottom end is in it?

Forged steel crank , power metal rods and hyperutectic pistons . Unless GM has planned to upgrade the LSA for 2012 , thats your bottom end . The Camaro has about as much chance of getting a "special" LSA as it does losing 500 lbs .

It may have nothing to do with brilliant engineering. They may avoid putting forged pistons in it just to keep people from turning up the boost and blowing parts under warranty, like the trans.

There may be other reasons for using the hypersploding pistons, like cost and avoiding cold piston slap(I heard they are very thermally stable).

Nonsense.

Ford has managed to give the Mudstain a forged bottom end capable of taking vastly more power than stock.

If GM does not do the same, it is nothing less than failure - and others have already noticed:

I fear you are correct, and the tired and lame excuses will begin in 3... 2... 1...

Oooops. I'm late. They already started last night.

Why isnt 556 HP enough? I ended up buying a 2011 Shelby and I'm sure a lot of other cars are faster, but this thing moves and has way more power than traction.

Seeing as the LS3 guys can put down 650hp I see no reason why a factory blown LSA cant put down 700hp and why would you need more than that, it would just be a dyno queen like most of these big number street cars are. You just cant hook up with much more than 500-600 rwhp.

Why isn't 350hp enough? Why did nearly every LS1 ever built into a Camaro or TA get modded?

Also, there is a very good reason to do it in that because the Ford can make more power, it gets massive street cred.

And while the drones from each camp will buy a Mustang because it's a Mustang or a Camaro because it's a Camaro...

Those who aren't drones and are looking for a fast car will look at the ability of the car to take mods and will buy Mustangs.

And given GM's history, GM will miss yet another opportunity unless they are beat over the head with the fact that FORD has FORGED internals. Heck, I can hear the excuses rolling already...

"Hyper-U-Xplode-its are quieter!!!"

Ford has forged slugs and manages to sell Mudstains with 'em.

Forged internals are more expensive!!!

Ford has forged internals, and manages to sell Mudstains with them.

Not that many people mod their cars!!!

Ford has forged internals - tell that to all the '03/'04 Cobra owners out there.

Blar, blar, blar, tweedle-deedle-dee-wubba-wubba-wubba!!!

THE FREAKING FORD has FORGED FREAKING INTERNALS.

I lived through the wonders of the 10-bolt. Don't make the same mistake in a different part of the car.

They make these spiffy new pistons now with an offset pin location (just like the hyperjunks) to ease the cold start-up noise.

Just saying

Isn't the LSA already pushing its limits in stock form?

I STILL say an LS7(if they can keep production going) would be a great route.
I dont see why it has to be supercharged just because ford did it.

You'll find it interesting to note that a rumored November 2011 Launch date is rumored to be moved up to a mid-2011 date....

This will also be about the same time something else is released....

not surprising. Michael Bay was one of the first people outside of GM to see the concept and decided he wanted it in the first one. Im sure he saw some designs for the 2nd and 3rd as well so he could use them.

Personally, I agree with you. I would rather have the LS7 as a starting point in the new Z28.
