[QUOTE=Big Windy Z;6135953]Dealer outside of Chicago has 10 units slightly under MSRP , use it for the deal in your neighborhood , these guys were over MSRP for the longest time , they can rot on the lot now!!![/QUO

I agree, the Dealers have a 10/12% cushion to deal with under the SUGGESTED MSRP price and still make a good profit on the cars.

I love when people think dealerships make 10/12% on a new car. If you bought a new 2SS with a MSRP of $37880.00 the dealership owns the car for $34551.78. that is after the hold back and the advertising that they pay to GM. So actually the dealership owns the vehicle for $36337.58 and depending on which market you are in you may have to add the advertising twice if you have a local marketing group. So on a $37880.00 Camaro if we sold it at Gm employee the dealership actually makes $1701.50.
Then they have to pay the salesperson, managers, light bill, and many more people.
Not to go on and on but dealerships have less then a 4-5% net profit on any vehicle.

The 10/12% is the amount off the MSRP the Dealer has and still make a profit. Example. $35000 List 10% off (3500) you pay $31500 and the Dealer made his profit. Anyone who pays the MSRP price is a IDIOT.....

Phillips Chevrolet , Frankfort . Let those cars sit , buy from the dealers who were with the MSRP all along. I bought a Caddy EXT instead of the Camaro because I didn't want to take a bath paying above list . I rented the Camaro to get it out of my system till next spring .

I went today to my dealership because they had 3 sitting on the lot for about 2 weeks now. Then I found out why cause they want 61,000 for a 2SS and and get ready for this one 48,000 for a V6 LT. They told me it was supply and demand. Nobody is gonna pay that price which is why they are still there. Then I called chevy to ask if it was legal to mark up if I order it not buy off the lot. They said I have to pay what ever the dealer is willing to sell it for, which was by the way 60,000. Said they would cut off a thousand if I ordered it. Hope they all go out of business. Crazy guess I will be still waiting...

I can believe dealers can get away with it.... i mean... if they are doing that is because they have gotten 1 or 2 people to bite for that price.. it's sad...
You gotta be hard on them...they are fighting to get the most money out of you.. and you are fighting to keep the most money... it's business...
I am glad to say that I Pre-ordered and got it at MSRP... there was only 2 people before my preorder and they payed..10k over and right after my order was set they sill sold camaros for 10k or 5 k over. I don't blame them.. if they can get away with it... sorry for the people that pay it thought.

I agree. There is nothing wrong with capitalism. If someone has enough money and wants something bad enough, let them spend it. Dealerships have to make money to stay in business, that's the whole point why their employees show up for work, you know... Also, it makes you feel much better when you find a deal because you had a little patience!

Injected with Nitro
I'm junpin on kinda late... I know that everyone's experience is different, but.. I also "Rented one to get it out of my system". It was like an intervenous injection of nitroglycerin. I don't really know what that would feel like, but I'm bettin' that it would get me ready to drive an SS Camaro! Mine is now on the way!

I can't imagine anyone with $60k wanting a Camaro bad enough to pay that much for it instead of looking around for a better price. That's a huge markup. Even if you were made of money and had that much to throw away, what person would want to walk into a dealership with the whole place thinking what a dumb sucker you were for paying that much for it?

Im seeing used SS's in the mid 30's, I almost got the demo V6 model for 19K! it has 5K miles on it... But when I tyryed to go for it... they said it was sold... still in the back of the dealership... if still there by spring I will offer them 18K

jumping in here late as well, just to back up jtrott on the whole markup dealerships have. Im a GM salesman in fort knox kentucky. if the sticker on the window says MSRP= 35000, then the GM supplier price (which id be more then glad to sell any new camaro to anyone at) is roughly 33500. DEALER COST BEFORE ADV. FEES TO GM is roughly 32750.
ive got a mathematics minor so ill break down the simple math
35000-32750= 2250
2250 is %6.43 markup BEFORE paying me my mini-deal commission of 200 dollars. and yes, its a mini deal because chevy doesnt make **** on new car sales.
lets just say the dealership wanted to cover my 200 dollar commission and break even. that means there markup is now 2050 dollars (%5.86 markup) just to break even on the car.
advice to the generally ignorant consumers- when you go to a new car lot and think youre gonna get 10% off a new chevy sticker price and then act like an *** becuase you're told they cant do it... you're just making youself look retarded and you dont even know it.
:-)
if you dont believe me, id be more then glad to fax an invoice sheet to you so you can proove to yourself youre ignorant to how car sales actually work
