Testing at Roebling
Testing at Roebling
Hey everyone,
Just threw together this video of our test date this weekend. We, obviously, haven't ripped the car apart or gotten the cage in it yet, but... we're figuring out all of the quirks, and getting a feel for the tire pressure the car likes.

Re: Testing at Roebling
I would have preferred to do it that way, actually. I don't know if you can hear it in the video, but the microphone cable kept pulling itself loose, so there are long periods where you could just hear static and popping, so I tried to lower the video's audio track levels at those points and then added the music track so there wouldn't be periods of silence. The music track is set low enough you can still hear it roar when the sound kicks back in though!
Glad you like the vid!
Re: Testing at Roebling
The problem with GoPros is they're actually, relatively, physically big, and when we're actually racing you can't have anything on your helmet. The setup we're actually going to have is an AIM Smarty Cam mounted to the roll cage, which has an internal GPS mapping and accelerometers for data collection, and it plugs into the AIM MXL Dash we're going to run, which pulls data directly from the OBDII port so we can have almost any data streamed to the video. It records in 480P, so it's not the 1080P of the GoPro, but it's pretty decent.
Re: Testing at Roebling
I am sure you know that GoPro has a nice roll bar mount. I used it here...

I was at LS Fest over the weekend, and these guys were there displaying their camera:

It was pretty slick...and smaller than a GoPro.
Not that any of this matters, because the vid you posted above is pretty cool as-is!!

The replayxd looks like it's about the same size as the VIO POV cam that I use. Yeah... it's a toss up between HD, cost, and the ease of integrating the video with data... and it's hard to beat just one plug.
Re: Testing at Roebling
Thanks for the explanation, and understand completely! One of these days I'm going to have to venture away from the drag strip world and visit a road course again...
Best of luck to you!

LOL, here you go... here's a decent video where the mic cable didn't come out from SP yesterday: [autostream]http://autostream.com/camaroz28/?page_type=firebirdplayerthumbnail&framepage=1762& transactionid=1316536651-683482114&posted_by=wastintime_www.camaroz28.com&y outube_video_id=shumlSuEgHs[/autostream]
