Sweating the details - Camaro exhaust note
Maybe it's not the firing order? I really don't know. I honestly don't hear alot of people saying that Camaros don't sound as good as M*stangs, quite the opposite up until the LS cars. They might be one of the worst sounding V8's ever, especially for being so powerful. Mine and my friends L98 cars sound like monsters compared to his 02 SS, (they all have aftermarket exhaust) even stock they had better sound. The Thirds have about 100 less HP than the LS1 cars, it just baffles me how much better the true small and big block Chevys sounded. It was like their signature, that deep roaring rumble. (not that high-pitched annoying hollow drone of the F*rds, or the odd inbetween sound of the Mopars) I remember reading reviews of IROC-Z's vs. 5.0's and even the authors often agreed the Chevy sounded better stock and was slightly louder, with single exhaust. There was also no need back then to put hours into trying to get it to not sound lame like they're doing now. The LS's are such good engines, technically probably the best overall V8 you can buy IMO, I just wish they sounded more like it.
I dont know... I just dont care for the LS exhaust (stock or modified...)
I always did love the tone of the SBC like in my 3rd gen

That is my Edelbrock RPM catback on a stock L03 (305 TBI)... Now I have a L98 and it sounds even better... I just need to make a sound clip for it
Too bad there is no way to make the LS sound like the old SBC. To me, the LS's sound a lot like the "pasta-rockets"... to high pitch and roar, not deep and rumble... LT1 has that same sound as the old SBC, why doesn't LSx?

For those who don't like the sound of an LSX exhaust note, stop in at my FQuick garage (link to the left, beneath my avatar) and see what it sounds like with a Corsa catback. I've changed a few minds in the past.

Still not as deep and rumbly as I like them to be (old SBC
)... but def not too bad

This is the sort of exhaust note that winds my watch.

Heck, give me the music that an old school or new school smallblock plays and I'll be more than happy.

(.......and I know this will result in another poll.....) -- sound is subjective -- while I love the sound of the LT1 -- I believe that the LSx engines sound more 'exotic' -- and if you put the right exhaust system on them -- they sound downright mean......
The sound has so many dimensions -- and then there are the other 'issues' that will change how the car actually sounds........
(I'll discuss 'issues' later this summer!)
I guess we should all buy Ferrari's or Lamborghini's then!
"Exotic" or high pitched is for European cars and V12's. Deep, mean, and roaring rumble is musclecar, like the SBC's and BBC's had.

He was complimentary of the sound of my Z06, which I thought was pretty nice. I told him it was Lou's longtubes, World Challenge x-pipe and the stock Titanium catback.
The old and new school SBC's all sound good to me.

(and I think the best sounding LSx is definitely the LS7...because it's got a nice burble until you get on it...and then it's like a race car....shame I'll never have the disposable income to get me some of that.)Then again, my fave engine note belongs to the RX vehicles from Mazda. Nothing is better than the demon-possessed buzz saw sounds of a rotary. 9000 rpm? Yes please.
