So I went to Ford last night....

Last night I was driving bye the ford dealership and it seemed to me that they had a brand new order of 07-08 Mustangs that just arrived. I decided to take a look and see what Ford was up to. The first thing I came across was an 07 Cobra with 128 miles on it, I have to admit its a nice car but when you move into the interior I was shocked to see it was just as cheap as sh** as all the other models.

I made my way of to the V8 427's to compare prices I was surprised to see an 08 427 Supercharged starting at 27k. I began to think how’s the Camaro was going to compete with this for that price. They also just happen to have the second Roch out of the 100 special additions they put out. “Very sweat”

As I roamed around the parking lot a flock of sales men paraded around me and when I simply told them I was awaiting the all mighty CAMARO before I made any decisions needles to say they did not like that.

So what the hell is up the sleeve of Chevy? I want a V8 Camaro so bad and I don’t want to pay 40k plus to beat a 427 Mustang. I have to admit Ford has a good price point even though there cars are built cheap. I hope the Camaro can stay well within the price range of the competing mustang....27k SUPERCHARGED

FBODFATHER…..Can you tell us when we can expect Chevy to release engine and model specifications? Will we see a supercharged version for under 30K? Or at all…

Hmmm....awaiting 97z28/m6 about comparing those two cars......

Had the Camaro been available last summer when I bought my Mustang and within my price range, I probably would have bought it.

I say "probably" because I haven't seen the final production nor test driven one.

just so you know its 28k plus the 18k roush package, for a total of 46k.

http://www.roushperformance.com/vehicles.shtml

and its not really a 427, its a 4.6l or a 289 with a blower

it did say that on the factory sticker, and then the sticker next to it had all the roush options and prices, the total would be on the final invoice

well there is no comparison. the 4th gen is faster, better equipped, and better layed out. the seats in the mustang are awful. i would not be in a mustang had GM still built the 4th gen or at least imported the GTO up north.

the only thing i like about my GT is the 4.6 3 valve engine. sounds good and is very smooth. heres a pic of my mustang:

I went into a ford dealer last friday and wound up leaving with a new truck. Me and the g/f were looking for one for a while and came across a real nice F-150. I think the mustang interiors are real nice, my buddy has an 07 GT. But after really looking into the new GT's I can't help but get real excited about the new camaro.

a mustang with aftermarket exhaust can be as far as that sound goes

BUT that pic Scott posted a while ago with people listening to different exhaust notes of other cars really has me thinking they wont disappoint us in that area

I'm gonna go into my local Ford dealership and ask if they have the new front wheel drive edition...as seen in these top secret spy photos. (it's camo'd as an older model, but it's really the 2010). That's the Camaro's competition right there.

Pretty sure they changed the # from 427 to 428 for 2008.

Don't joke, they almost did this once! (Ford Probe was almost the Ford Mustang)

I'm not sure what to make of your post either, Mike. You come across as someone not that knowledgable about cars and makes some pretty strange statements as a result. Here's why:

First, the GT500 (it isn't called Cobra anymore) is a powertrain package. It has different interior trim, and it does have covers for the dash and doors that's missing on regular Mustangs. But what you are paying for is that bazooka-proof powertrain that although is rated at 500hp, can handle well over 700 horsepower without any strengthening of engine, tranny, or differential parts.

Second, the Roush 427 Mustang is an aftermarket Mustang. The price you pay is for the mechanical parts that improve performance and handling and assorted cosmetic body kit addons. Unless you're speculating on a Roush Camaro or some other aftermarket tuner, Camaro isn't going to compete with that car. Roush gets a Mustang, adds or replaces gear, adds their own warranty, and charges over 15 grand on top of the price of the donor Mustang. They (in this example) aren't part of Ford.

Third, and sorry, I'm going to bust your bubble, if you're going to run in the company of either the GT500 or the supercharged Roush, and expect to pay the price of a last gen well optioned Z28, then you're going to be in for a major disappointment. +/-$40,000 is the going rate for that level of V8 performance today. Whether you're talking SRT8s, GT500s, or LSa based Camaros. Thinking you're going to get a supercharged Camaro for under $30,000 is simply ludicrous...... and that's being very, very polite.

If you want a car with a blower for under $30,000 then there's a few Cobalt SSs left for about $20K. You can still get a Mini Coopers S Clubman with a supercharger for $24K. Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky Reline is under $29,000. But in an age where Mustang GT is the cheapest V8 powered production car on the planet at an opening bid of $26,000 and change, and the IRS higher content Camaro is likely to cost more than that in V8 trim, thinking you're going to get a blower, , a interior that's isn't "cheap as s**" (as you called the Mustang's) and 500 horsepower plus matcxhing durable drivetrain and suspension is more than bending reality.

In regards to the whole Mustang situation. I've had my share of F-Cars and now have an 06 Mustang GT M5. I really like my Mustang.......Is it the fastest car I've ever owned? No. Is the 4th Gen faster? Yes. BUT as an overall package the Mustang works well indeed. I hate to sound "gimicky", but I really like the "My Color" dash. Will there be a new Camaro in my garage when it finally is available? Probably

the seats in the mustang are awful.
I don't have a problem with the seats. To each there own I guess........

i would not be in a mustang had GM still built the 4th Gen
Agreed, I'm more of a GM guy, but you can't buy what they didn't make.

a mustang with aftermarket exhaust can be as far as that sound goes
Flowmaster cat-back with x pipe and high flow cats! Sounds awesome!
