So, Charlie...

Okay, this is getting pretty unfriendly and I don't appreciate the name calling, especially to my friends.
Charlie, do you know or do you not know? Answer the damn question and stop skirting it so we can move on.

Until the 5th Gen in on the street and you watch it get weighed or GM publishes a curb weight nobody knows for certain. And for those that do, they won't say.
All the rest of this falls under rumor and speculation.

Anyway, like 99SilverSS said, we've talked about all of that already. I've heard a bunch of numbers so I don't want specifically state one number.
But it will exceed it's weight goal. And as time goes on, everyone's relative numbers keep going up.

I can't say I agree with Charlie on 90% of the things he says (sorry, man )...but what was the purpose of the thread. (i.e Why was it directed AT Charlie, if it wasn't malicious in it's intent) At this point - there is NO point to this thread at all. If it was a "what do you think it will wiegh" with a poll is one thing. But it was targeted AT Charlie...again, I don't know why...and then a poll was added after the fact. wtf?

Easy there Jason. You could ask alittle nicer you know.

For me, the most exciting thing happening right now is because of all the cafe nonsense the automakers are all seriously talking about weight reduction. REAL weight reduction. Nissan's next Z-car is reportedly a full 200 pounds lighter than the current vehicle, for example.
Yeah, the CAFE stuff is total crap, based on other total crap, but there's an upside: It's going to end the trend towards each generation of vehicle being heavier than the last. And so far, the automakers are saying that they want to keep the power levels constant (though maybe achieve them via turbocharging) and reduce weight, instead of make everything anemic like in the 70's.
The foxbody mustang weighed in right at 3000 pounds. Two generations later it's 1/4 ton heavier.
The upcoming camaro will be perfectly fine the way it is. It's product cycle will end right before the new laws come into effect full force. And you can bet that it's going to be a successful car. The next generation will likely be significantly lighter, and probably smaller. That's good news...and hey, you're getting a great car that looks amazing in the meantime.

I knew there was a reason I stopped comming here.
I think in order to post in the 5th Gen section, you need an auto reply of:
"Oh man, that is just beautiful. I love everything about it. My deposit is already put down."

on the other side of the coin, if you go into the lounge it seems like you need a reply stating the opposite

I got the "over 4K" number from here:
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...hotopanel..1.*
and here:
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...omparison.html
MT said 4,096 lbs and Edmunds said 4,100. Sooooo... they got a car with some options?

I initiated a $12 bet. My wager had the interesting side effect that the results would be somewhat evident to everyone on the forum for the following year. You inexplicably counteroffered with more than 8x the amount.
I like CamaroZ28.com. I'm interested in and enthusiastic about Camaros, old and new. Same as you. So we end up posting in many of the same threads. Don't go thinking you're so special and I'm following you around. But when I'm reading a thread and I see yet another one of your snide, vague comments about how heavy the car is going to be, it ticks me off, and I reply. I'd give anyone else the same treatment, but that's the thing -- you're the only one that constantly harps on it like that. So yes, I made a thread calling you out. Not stalking or harassing -- just asking for a number.
To find out how heavy Charlie thought the car was going to be.
Charlie is very vocal about weight, and he never gives a number. He's obviously not going to stop being vocal about weight, and it's hard to discuss it without getting at least a bit more specific than "it's going to be heavy." So I wanted him to get specific.
Yes, I could have given it a different subject, but wanting someone to get specific is hardly malicious.
I didn't think of adding a poll at first. I thought later that the results would be interesting and added it.
You'd encounter little resistance that way, since that's how many of us feel (except for the deposit part).
The general impression I get is that people in the 5th gen forum don't want people to be critical of things we're not sure about. To pick one recent example, there's a big difference between saying, "The 5th gen is hideous from the back," and "The angle of that photo isn't very flattering to the rear of the car. I hope it looks better in person." Don't jump to conclusions, and before you form your final opinion. I don't think that's unreasonable at all.
At this time I'd like to stop arguing about my intent. I've said my piece; think what you want. As Jason said, it's getting ugly in here. I'd like to go back to discussing weight.
Jason, if you're still here... as a token of my good intent, would you mind editing the name of the thread to "So, how much do you think the 5th gen will weigh?"
Again, I'm not trying to be malicious here. I really want to know how heavy you think the car is going to be. It seems to me that the fact that you've heard a bunch of numbers gives you freedom to take your best guess. Even if you just voted in the poll... that would be specific enough to satisfy me.
What is the goal? Is that something you can share?

These are the kinds of statements I find troubling. One, you have no basis for knowing the 'weight goal', unless you are part of the Camaro design team. Two, statements like this are antagonistic by nature and reflective of disdain for the car. I believe a fan should wait until they know all the facts (dimensions, power/tq, price, performance) before trying to make a sweeping judgment.
