Re: Rumor: SAE testing complete, numbers "north of 570 HP"

I have been thinking about this...

My L99/LS3 with the LS9 camshaft and a 2.3l blower/tune/headers makes approximately 17 horsepower less than a 638hp LS9 ZR1...

I am wondering even more what the ZL1 official power will be...hmmm...

well we all know its not goign to be ZR1 level. and we can assume its going to be more than CTS-V ill bet its right around 600. and assuming ford is taking the gt500 up close to 600....we wont hear much until ford releases their numbers for 2012 im sure.

Horsepower is great and all, but there comes a point where it is not practical on the street. I would rather there be some money diverted from the engine and go into the suspension or the use of some lighter materials.

not true. the bugatti veyron has over 1000hp, yet very practical on the roads.

Well, for one thing, it is a heavy pig, and for another, it has AWD.

All that aside, how often do you think you get to really stretch the legs of 1000 horses in that car?

I remember the first time I drove a 405 hp C5 Z06. I thought, good Lord, I'd get in trouble with this thing. Light weight plus RWD plus stout levels of power mean you'd better be paying attention. It was pretty crazy quick for driving on the street.

A few years later I got to try a couple of C6 Z06s (but only on a test track, not on public roads). 3130 lbs plus 505 hp was just sick. That car is still among my all time favorite cars.

There's a reason for the old saying that it is sometimes "more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow"...

The issue is with how much engineering/money goes into making that much power streetable.

??? its already done in the cts-v..... itsn ot hard to drive a car with gobs of power at a normal pace. the total power isnt reached until you push it to the max.its not like driving a cammed old school muscle car that wants to jerk every time it gets below a certain rpm. i think people have a bad perception of a high HP car. it doesnt make it a freak on the street just because theres 600hp. its very controlable. your not driving around everywhere full throttle(or where the max HP & TQ are)
