Those who are very young (which I'm guessing you are) typically buy USED cars. Those in the under 22 group who actually do buy new cars, tend to buy small, economical, or low priced cars, and account for less than 5% of all new car sales. Why?
Insurence rates for under 25 year old drivers is high already. Add V8 engines and performance cars, and the rates jump to astronomical. Combine that with the high intrest rates younger people with little or no credit have to pony up in order to get a loan, and then it becomes clear why new high performance cars aren't normally bought by young people (except those who have a real job, and are very good with their finances). Yes, this includes Mustang GTs.
As for mommy and daddy co-signing for some sub 20 year old, they aren't going to get junior or young miss a high powered, expensive to insure vehicle.
On the other hand, cars like the Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger (which I assume are the cars you are refering to as "retro") are bought new by people who insurence and loans aren't a real problem. Typically, the higher the performance, the higher the average age of the buyer. 4th gen Camaro Z28s (hardly retro by any standards), had an median buyer's age of over 40. the "retro" new Mustang V6 has an median buyer's age of about 32.
Cars like the Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger (as well as Corvette, and all the wet dream exotics) are made for those who actually can buy them and to make those who can't (atr least at the moment) really want one.... so far 9 out of 13 in you poll are under 25, and they seem quite OK with "retro" by the same margins as everyone else.
"Retro" Beetles and Minis have median age buyers in the 30s.
Crown Vics and Buicks are in the 50s.
Corvettes, Mustang Cobras (last gen), & 4th gen Camaro Z28s & SS's, were in the 40s.... again, hardly a group of retro cars.
So, when you refer to a car appealing to "old farts", you should at least know what you are talking about.
Stay in your age group next time.
