A question for Scott - the 6th gen

This is a spinoff of Charlie's thread in the "Auto News/Future Vehicle" forum: https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=580942

I have a question for Scott.

With the 5th gen almost upon us (just a few more months!), has work begun on a 6th gen yet? Even if it's just planning, concept sketches, etc.

Or is GM taking a "wait-and-see" approach to the 6th gen, holding off on any plans until a clear picture of the 5th gen's sales appears?

If you can't answer, Scott, it's no problem. I was just curious.

I think it might be a bit too early at this point.

Maybe, maybe not. I wouldn't be surprised if someone at GM has brought it up already.

I know one thing, IF the Zeta Camaro is only going to have a run of a few years, they had better start considering the 6th Gen very soon.....

at the risk of getting political, unless the upcoming election goes a certain way, I wouldn't count of Camaro living past 2011 unless they offer a hybrid, electric, or a pedal version. Liberal greenies will ruin the musclecar revival as fast as they can.

It can and will go WAY past 2011 my friend. The new CAFE regs don't go into effect until 2020... and GM wouldn't even release a car that would only have 2-3 model years b/c the investment couldn't be recovered in that time.

Well, today's GM is much more well prepared for the future. I can foresee a V6 Camaro in my future if the base V8 does not serve up great mileage (and come very cheap). I don't think they will abandon the idea entirely, it will just be lighter with more economical engine choices, with the V8s being very expensive. I would not be suprised to see a V6 hybrid. As technology improves, we could possibly see a 450hp V6 Gas-Electric hybrid that usually has 250 hp under normal driving, but 450 under full acceleration and can achieve 40 mpg.

remember the 3rd gen 4 cylinder cars? Today there are a lot more options.

Until the CAFE rules are written (they aren't -- only the law was passed) I think I can safely say that many programs are on 'hold' until we figure out what the rules will be and what we have to do to meet the law 'playing by the rules'

By the way -- if this does NOT make you furious at our elected officials -- it should!

Either way (Repub/Democrat) ... politicians are all going GREEN ... expect these standards to get worse and worse...except if we can get new technology to help scrub CO2 emissions from our tailpipes...New materials can selectively capture CO2

Well, you're wrong about that because this is a bi-partisan deal.
