Q for Scott: GM's release date for official camaro pics / vids / media?

If official production of the 5th gen doesn't start until almost '09, when is GM going to release official photos and sales media about the car?

The Tundra caught EVERYONE by surprise... I hope the Camaro can do the same....

Usually, that's what "Introductions" are for. Typically happens just a few months before it's ready for dealer orders. Sometimes less.

Like the Malibu, you may get pictures of production-looking prototypes 8-12 months before production, but accurate info on details (ie: engine choices, horsepower, official weight, etc..., usually isn't available till almost the 1st preproduction cars are on the assembly line.

Figure if the 1st preproduction Camaros go down the line in November 2009 for a January introduction, internet should have official info and pics September or October and magazines by their December issue.

How early do they generally start taking orders on a new vehicle?

That's a good Q, not the BS "give us a grand" crap they're doing now... but how long before the car comes out can you place a real order with options and pricing? I think with the silverados is was only like a month or so before they came out?

With the Solstice it was about 5 months but that was a special situation.

Man, that would mean I'd have to wait 'til December '08 to order. Isn't it like a 3 or 4 month wait when you order something? That would mean people wouldn't get their Camaro 'til March '09 at the earliest. Well, March IS the tail end of 1st Quarter '09. Though I'm hoping it's more toward the BEGINNING of 1st Quarter. lol

I'm hoping they take orders early enough that you can pick up your Camaro within a week or two of their official release (assuming that release is January '09).

I think you missed it, he was correcting the earlier post, if it going to be available first quarter 2009, then the first production models would be going down the line Nov. 2008, not Nov. 2009!

The wait is usually 4-8 weeks, but closer to 8 in most cases. Might be a LITTLE longer when placing orders at the very beginning, like I plan on doing, because of the allocations among other things. That time frame can be cut down a bit, but you need to know the sales manager VERY well (trust me, I know it can be done if everyone cooperates).

So, theoretically, assuming orders are taken early enough by the dealer, you can have yours as soon as they hit the lots. I ordered a few GMC Acadia's for customers that actually came in before we got any stock units for the lot.

Hope that makes you feel a little better.
