This Corvette-based V8 is rated at 400 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque with the available TREMEC T-56 close-ratio, six-speed manual transmission. The horsepower rating is 395 with the heavy-duty electronically controlled automatic transmission. Bottom line, this powerplant delivers more than 300 lb.-ft. of its available torque starting from just under 1000 rpm."
so you get 400 hp if you get the manual tranny... but you get 395 with an auto...??? sounds... weird

sounds like a case of excessive parasitic loss to me....

right now the Wilmington plant is only building the Kappa cars. if guionM is right (which i suspect he is), we should be hearing something about Willmington going through a remodeling within this year at the earliest.

they only remodeled enough of the plant to accomodate the Kappas.
the Willmington plant used to house the Saturn L-series. i forget what the actual capacity is there, but it's somwhere around 200,000 units.
considering the Kappas are only running at about 30,00 a year, that leaves a whole lot of plant for another model line to run along side Kappa.
and as was said earlier, one of the insiders over at C&G said 2 new models were due for the plant in the 2007 model year, mentioning one would be a 'vert which means the other would be a dedicated hard top.
what really needs to be done there as far as remodeling goes is more or less setting the rest of the plant up to handle the additional capacity the new models will require.
Re: Production Speculation Thread.....
sorry for the ticked off post, but I see the Camaro as more than a new Musclecar. I see it in my mind as being the leading car in an all out assault on the US market. I see it as the signal to the return of market domination. GunionM's post, being that he has had very knowledgable things to say in the past, has given me a glimpse that it probably is not what I am hoping for. It probably is just a concept, sure it may make production, but under the same dark ages mentality that GM has had since the 70s.
All this talk about waiting 6-8 months for a decision (on the hottest unveiling since god knows when), excessive capital to remodel a plant, etc.....
This is why my economics teacher kicked me out of class.....
I always say, if somethign costs too much, there is a better way to do it, period. 99 times out of 100, I am right. It really makes me mad that they don't see it. Modular plants that can handle a wide range of cars would be the perfect thing to shoot for, but no, lets just keep doing it the same old way, dumping a new pile of cash into an old plant to make it work with a new vehicle.....
Sorry, but it seems simple to me. If they do not have the people there to figure out how it's done, then they need to hire smarter people, or let the smarter people come up with ways on how to make things better.
