A car is only as capable as its driver.

I've told this story before. When SLP brought a 1LE SS to GM for testing, Heinricy beat his best lap time that he ran in a 99 Z51 C5. They couldnt believe it, and told SLP, "NO YOU CANT TELL ANYONE". The SS was in full SLP trim with 1LE suspension and gForce KDs.

so you bet the 4th gens were seriously excellent handling cars.

IMO, a set of KD's on that Z51 might have altered that time as well.

The Commodore also has larger rear brake rotors in the rear, as did the last gen CTS-V. This is nothing new, and the caliper and pad are smaller as someone said before.

What I want to know is, what is the difference between these Brembro's and the black Sweedish car that was wearing those larger-then-average silver multi-piston calipers?

Man Nurenburg is only like an hour and a half away from me. I wonder if I could get in and look at my future car if I drove over there.

I am also wondering that, maybe they are the same and they were not painted? Or this could be another option GM is looking for in terms of brakes, comparing the two setups?

Perhaps what we saw in Sweeden were an upgraded brake system that might be optional? Kinda like 350Z's "Track" trim level?

In all honesty the presence of Brembos does not necessarily mean they'll ever see production. Its probably nothing more than the engineers wanting excellent stopping power because they are going to be performing extensive testing at the Ring.

350z\'s track level brakes are brembos though no? So that might be what we\'re seeing here.

The plates on the car are Australian. Australia requires yellow signals in the rear.

And publicly display that their brake package isn't up to the task?

Somehow I doubt that.

No, It seems much more likely that they are being shaken down for an upcoming model / option.

Besides, if they wanted bigger / better brakes for safety reasons during 'ring testing, they need only raid their own corporate parts bin.

Pretty good point, but what does the roll cage say? That the car isn't safe? Just playing devil's advocate. Tough call on what the intent of the Brembo system is. We have been told there will be surprises with the car, though.

IMO it says...

"We're going to test these new brakes right up to the point of potential failure. We're going to run them very hard from very high speeds. If a failure occurs and we can't get slowed up for a corner.... it's going to be big. Besides, the insurance guys at corporate recommended it for this type of hazardous testing."

I have to agree. That car is still a test mule and I would suspect that many of the suspension components and geometry has certainly never been tested at the Ring before. Put in the roll bar and "if" something breaks you won't loose the test drivers. That track is no stranger to taking lives. I think former F1 champ Nikki Lauda would agree that propper respect should be paid to the Nordschleife at all times.

As for the Brembo's I don't think GM would waste time and energy in testing for parts they won't use. Especially at the Ring, I would think they are tuning the setup and not developing it anymore. I have a feeling that this is Z/28 testing and that Brembo's will be part of that formula.
