NEWS: Muscle Car Wars: Camaro vs. Challenger vs. Mustang [Jalopnik Reviews]
Decent article. I get the impression that none of these testers would really buy any of these cars. Maybe they threw the keys to the econobox testers.
I'd have one of each if I could. (SS, GT500, SRT8 that is.)
Every time I see all 3 of these cars together I can't help but think of how lucky we are in these dark days for the American automakers to have legitimately fun pony/muscle cars available from all three makes.

This is true, but the Challenger is a tank and the M*stang will have to gain weight with a bigger engine and the heavier duty parts to support a more powerful car. Their top car is definetly no light weight either. Neither is any other car in the class or in classes near it. Heavier cars are kinda something we have to expect these days.

I think you will be surprised at how little weight, the Mustang will gain, with the new powertrain.
5.0L vs 4.6L should be negligable. A few pounds for the trans.
The structure needs nothing, as it is already designed to handle 540hp.
Ford is supposed to be actively working on taking weight out of the car. I guess we will see.

There will be a weight gain, but I dont think its gonna be a "hot damn, now the F5 'maro is the skinny boy of the bunch" kinda weight gain. IMO the GT is still gonna be lighter than the V6 F5.
Personally, I'm more excited about the new Mustang IRS than all this talk about weight. I don't doubt the Mustang's personality will change with the new IRS... for the better (IMHO).
Having said that, I think the Coyote will be a better 'fit' as it should have more torque and hopefully better packaging.
All good.

Iron blocks and DOHC heads are, thats probably 200 pounds right there, add in the FI gear and thats upwards of 300 pounds, then add in the other stuff (heavy duty brakes, M6, wider wheels) and that about rounds it out. The extra bracing the Shelby gets is in the form of k-member struts from the vert IIRC.

Might have been thinking 2014? I know MT recently said that possibly a heavily reworked S-197 chassis was due out around that time (probably just conjecture on thier part rather than rumor).
Then again MT stirred the IRS pot not to long ago by saying Ford Brass knicked the IRS due to costs and that in the end it actually cost more to implement the SRA

Maybe they were just rumors I took as gospel? Anyway, I can't produce the evidence therefore I must be wrong.
