Well of course I don't know for sure but, it doesn't make sense to have a car that is an updated version of a 1st gen (which was already angular) and have the only tie to another gen be the angularity of the 3rd gen applied to the 1st gen lines. They are trying to differentiate it from the original by using a current design theme in an attempt to bring the car in the moment. That is really a streatch to try to find other generations of Camaros in that design.
(I'm not trying to **** you off by the way)

 

The '05 looked dated the minute it was first shown...I forget who said it here, but they said that the '04 Mustang looks like it came out of the shell of the '05, and I agree completely. The '04 Mustang was/is a more appealing car the new one...at least as far as exterior and interior, (dash board mostly), are concerned...No new Camaro was needed to make the new 'Stang look dated, Ford already had produced the '99-'04 Mustangs that did a fine job at that

 

Anyone that says this thing has any 2nd/3rd.4th gen influence, please step back and look again.

I can look at half of my wife's left buttcheek and say "yeah, it does LOOK kinda like Jennifer Lopez' ***, there must be some influence"... I can also take a side boob shot of her and say "Yeah, those do have the same lines as Jessica Simpson's bags", when in reality she looks nothing like either one.

Anyone that says this thing isnt a full blown retro 1st gen is seeing things they WANT to see, not whats there.

I understand the need to make a 1st-gen themed car. $$$. Im just a late model guy, and always will be, especialy after seeing the direction GM is taking the car now.

The Mustang, however retro you want to call it, has hits from every generation sans the Mustang II, and they are PLAINLY visible. The Challenger has it easy due to the fact that it was only one body style its whole run.

I have my money saved for my down payment on the 5th gen. Unfortunately, it totally missed the mark with ME, and Ill be buying a Mustang.

I respect your opinion and all, but where in the world do you see, say, Fox body Mustang in the 2005?

If you absolutely cannot stand retro, I would think you wouldn't be looking to buy any of the new pony cars, I suppose....

Foxbody Mustang? Any panel on it that is flat with no life. LOL

 

No where, unless you count the fact that it has a struts suspension along with a coil spring rear, the fox cars only contribution. Even better since the fox car doesn't share any of the styling cues with any past or present mustang its become the red-heaed stepchild of the mustangness. Check out any "heritage" add or commerical for the current mustag and you will see every thing from 1964 to 1979 then 1994 to 2005, they skipped the fox car over like germany skips history from 1939 to 1945

 

Id have to agree. Didnt think about that one. Kinda stupid too due to the fact that if it wasnt for the Fox, none of any of this would be going on now.

Mustang wouldve been replaced by the analProbe, Camaro wouldnt have any competition and wouldve probalby been a Beretta, and we'd all be driving Honda's.

 

Yep, something to be said about a low priced, fairly well equipped V8 pony car. IIRC V8 stangs when it mattered (around 1987ish) went for about 13 to 15k well equipped, 225hp and 300 ft/lbs wrapped in about a 3000 to 3300 pound package. Now its 300 hp and 315 ft/lbs wrapped in a 3500 lbs pound package for 26 to 29k depending on equipment level.

 

Say what you want about the Fox body, heck they kind of remind me of Escorts of the day ( ), but they were an outstanding performance platform. IMO they are still the most popular Mustangs to build drag cars from. Small, simple, light, but room to drop whatever engine/tranny combination in it you'd like.

 

Couldnt agree more, but in all fairness, tell me one thing on those cars that said "Mustang".

Its hard to pull cues from a car that didnt represent its own identity.

 

In nearly every line? That's a pretty bold statement. While I respect your opinion, I think that's a little too much of a stretch. See for yourself:

The grille looks too reminescent of Ford's current Thunderbird, IMHO. So perhaps from the roof to the lower portion of the windows, this Camaro resembles a first generation. The rest of the car resembles the third generation.

It is hard to show all the similarities without pointing them out in person but all the major lines are 1st gen. The profile, the window outlines, the greenhouse(without eh "chopped" look), the grill, the dip between the two fender surface lines, the total lack of slope on the hood, the cowl, the rear window shape, the B pillar, the rear fender surface transition, the surface transition from the front to side, and so on.

That's a '68 Camaro not a '69. The concept looks like an updated '69.

 

I suppose you're correct. The concept pictures posted are not what I was imagining an updated Camaro based on the first generation to look like.

I was expecting it to be somewhere along the lines of this PS:


So when compared to what I was expecting (shown above), the final concept (IMHO) looks closer to a third generation Camaro than the first. I guess I'll have to wait until I see some more pictures or one in person.

On the bright side, at least the car looks nothing like those concept drawings done by Kris H.
