Making the decision between the v6 and v8
I am sure this has been asked before, I have searched and read a few of the previous posts.
I am trying to decide between the v6 and the v8 2010 Camaro.
Can you guys tell me what pushed you one way or the other? In the past, it wouldn't have even been a question. The v6 makes 305 horsepower, though, not sub 200 like older v6's (and some older v8's lol). Every review I have read so far, praises both v6 and v8, but always comes back to say how awesome the v6 is. How much of a surprise it is as far as how fun it is.
What made you lean one way or the other? Especially those of you who already have a previous generation Camaro. Are you selling the Camaro you already have? I have an 82 Camaro that should run close to 10's when I put it back together, I have had it since I was in high school, not sure I want to part with it...

I'm running with a V8. For me, it boiled down to timing (OK...and horsepower and...). Right now, I can afford to spend $35k. If I couldn't I would seriously consider the V6 and not feel bad about it. The main reasons for the V8 in my book were: 500+ HP future mod potential and the ability to finally be able to say I have an SS (after two previous Camaros that weren't).
I think the V6 is an amazing bang for your buck. If I were in a warm-weather part of the country, I'd have my 3rd gen to toy with and enjoy the hell out of daily-driving a v6 5th gen that has 300 HP and almost 30 MPGs on the highway. That'd be a dream... no snow, 5th gen Camaro as a DD and 3rd gen T/A as a track and show car. drool...
If it were my only f-body and for summer fun, i'd have a hard time not going for the V8 if my budget allowed

V8.
For me, it was not only the horsepower of the V8 but the fuel economy you get with that V8. Also the front fascia is different and also the good ol' "SS" badge. V8's typically have a better resale value, if you plan on doing that. The sound from a V8 is another thing I like.
I would wait and see (and hear) both if you are torn.

It'll probably be first of next year before I can buy but when I do, V8 all the way.
My reasoning, I've had a V6 camaro before and don't want another. The V6 served me well but I'm going all out this time...

If it were me, I'd buy a v6. the value for money is unbelievable. BUT I also have a big hp car, my Firebird. No need for a 400hp car when I have a mustang at about 300rwhp and the other car much higher.
The only hting that will probably keep me from doing it, is that I dont need a 3rd ponycar. I should keep the saab for its awd in the winter. Plus its probably almost as quick as a v6 camaro in a straight line (stg 2 modded).
If I lived in another part of the country? v6 Daily Driver all the way!
If this is your only performance car, go big or go home. you only live once.
As for seeing 500 hp v6's on FI. I kinda doubt it, w/o some motor work. Its 11.3:1 compression. Probably the max boost you can run on that, with pump gas will be under 7-8 lbs. Maybe only 4-5. Thats only gonna make maybe another 50 odd hp. 75 at best?
Someone else chime in here, and see if my guesses are close. I bet it would like a nice shot of nitrous tho.
V6, drag radials, and a 75-100 shot of naaaawwwwzzzz
. Yes plz.

If I were 27 years old and had a couple of toddlers around the house, I would be looking for a V6. Great car! But this is the first Camaro that I will buy since I bought my '69 used in 1978. I have other cars to drive around and beat up. This will be my CAMARO! I'll have the SS thank you...
