And it appears that the LS7 will stay around for at least a while, even after the LS9.

Yeah I noticed that too...contradicts other things I've read.

The bottom line though, is that by 2008 we're going to have such a broad array of V8s putting down 450+ hp/tq. These are really exciting times.

And whatever the case for the top dog Camaro, I'd really like to have a forged bottom end.

DCX has been playing with it too. The next-gen Viper (due in about a year) will have direct injection on a revised V10. The horsepower gains in that motor are said to be huge...

...and the story gets even jucier. Digital Corvettes is saying that the LS9 would be DOHC.

Yeah. I'm not really sure of what to make of that.

I'm going to go with a misinterpretation of the little piece of paper they got their hands on.

yeah, by 2009 i'm sure engine choices would be different than today. DoD, direct injection, all that stuff plus whatever else comes out in the next few years... i'm sure it'll be all good and sexy by then. i've got faith

now let's jsut hope my finances keep up

The muscle car war is back in swing and its just getting better and better. GM is build some awsome motors. Dodge's HEMI is now playing catchup to GM with the new HEMI and it seems the bigger the GM motor gets dodge builds on with .2 more liters. FORD's mod motor is taking a big hit with only 4.6 misly liters.lol. I see it like this GM started an american revolution with its LS series motors. they get awsome mpg even without dod and the power to hold its own. Chrystler is just copping every mechanical aspect of the LS motor with the exception of the heads. there are 6 bolt mains and all the bells and whistles of the ls motor in the hemi.

Yeah, look at the intake manifold on the new hemi...it looks just like an LSx intake design.

As far as their heads are concerned, they don't actually resemble an old hemi style head. They look flat, but without a squish area. And the other technology looks to be trick too, with dual spark plugs. Bottom line is, they are pretty bad azz.

Both the LS series and the Hemi are pushrod engines. Hemi seems to be on par with the power of the LS, but I think the LS series is more efficient, getting better mileage - even without the DoD feature. Ford isn't even in the running. Its all about Mopar vs. Chevy.

As someone mentioned before, GM will not lose a horsepower war - I can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves.
