The little pieces of heritage
The little pieces of heritage
Before the Gestapo jumps all over me, let me preface this by saying that this is not something that should stop anybody from buying the new Camaro, this is just a small example of how in my opinion I believe that design wise, the 5th gen is more concerned with 1st gen retro than overall Camaro heitage.
The view from the front
1971-1973
The shape of the Camaro badge is born.

1974
The tri-colors make their first appearance.

1975-1977
The bowtie is added to the design.

1978-1979
The badge goes black and white so to speak, but the design is still there.

1980-1981
The color returns as does the Camaro name.

1982-1985
The Camaro name disappears again but the tri-colors still stand proudly.

1986-1992
Small detail changes but everything is still there.

1993-2002
The bowtie goes performance red but the badge rides the Camaro into the sunset.

Totals:
Excluding 71-73, the basic Camaro badge is on 28 years or 78% of Camaros.

The view from behind
1974-1977
The wrap around taillight is debuted.

1978-1981
The wrap around design continues and the tri-colored design is introduced.

1982-1984
The gen changes, but the taillight design carries on with only size changes.

1985-1992
Black dividers are added but the design stays true.

1993-1996
The tri-colored lenes do not make it on to the early 4th's but the design clearly ties into the 74-77 wrap around two color design.

1997-2002
The tri-color lens makes it's return.

Totals:
Tricolored lens on 21 years or 58%. Wrap around lens on 29 years or 80%.
The Corvette has it's quad taillights and crossed flags badge, so why can't we get our design heritage too?

I agree whole-heartedly with the badge
. That would be an easy "last minute" change to add that on the nose of the car
.
The tail-lights?
I see where they've drawn inspiration from the '70-'73s, which I like. Although I realize they're not perfectly round, and I know there's also the stigma of "copying" the Corvette's 4 round tail-lights, but the way the concept's look, I'm ok with, and see the "heritage" to the early '70's versions
. ALTHOUGH, you do make a pretty strong/valid argument towards the tri-color wrap-around lenses!

Agree w/ the badge 100%. Camaro needs it's badge. Even Corvette has managed to keep it's emblem all these years
Have you guys ever seen the Camaro in the dark with its taillights on? They've been coined "afterburners"...I'll see if I can find a pic...anyways, I think that drawing slightly from Corvette is cool, because after all, it is Vette's little brother
. I love them for those reasons. Wouldn't change them any other way.

I like the IROC grids as well, but thats cause they went well with the car, but I LOVE my 72's tails...

glare of the light and flash hits the reflectors, giving it an afterburner look too
The 5th gen pulls off a good first gen merged with early 2nd gen tails. They are seperate and semi circular on the inside, but the outside is squareish.

Badge = YES, we need this back
Tail Lights = I like what they have done, but I do prefer a more round look... (I'm a early 2nd gen guy at heart) this helps to tie the Camaro to the Vette and the 4 round lights are different from almost any other car out there...
