It's been two weeks......what's next?

So, this has been the longest (2) weeks since we learned that the Camaro would be coming back. In that time, there has been a lot of speculation on many different things, but the only real information that we have heard is that Oshawa will be building the car and that it will weigh somewhere between 100 and 5500 pounds. Sorry guys, but you have really had me laughing at that thread.
PLEASE, NO WEIGHT COMMENTS HERE....YOU ALREADY HAVE YOUR SPACE.

So, what's next? When will we hear something about engines more than just what we want? Color options, interior, options period. I know we are (2) years away and this is all subject to change, but let's face it, there's only one more year model before we will have our Camaros!!

Scott, feel free to add anything you'd like.....

It comes down to testing and research now. Things will trickle out as we start hearing things from suppliers and seeing test mules, etc. We actually got the plant sooner than I expected. Two weeks after the official "go" and we now know it will be built in Canada. Wow, much more expediant GM than in the past. Kudos. So, that means we have at least one more place to focus spy efforts and those that work there will be seeing things as well. The wind is in the sails now, so we are making big progress already. This is now the fun stuff! We can actually speculate on something that is for sure coming!

Since they won't be able to begin the conversion to a flex factory until the current models at Oshawa have died out and the line is idled (scheduled for early '08, I believe I read that somewhere, it was able to be moved up six months), where will the test mules and preproduction cars be built?

What changes to the body are going to be made for production? I know they have commented on the greenhouse height and the car's width. If these two are adjusted, will the car have the same presence?

Well, I don't know a lot about how the plants work internally at all, but here's something I find interesting.

My g/f's Dad works at the Oshawa TRUCK plant. Now we all know the new GMT900 trucks are coming out in a few more months, right? Well, they're still building the current models in there, but he told me that at one end of the plant, they've been getting things setup and they've actually started building a few of the new GMT900's already! Keep in mind, the place is HUGE, so I guess they've got the space to shut down a corner, and set it up to build something else (on a small scale ... obviously not full production). I would "guess" that they may have the ability to do the same in one of either Oshawa #1 or #2 car plants?

I wish I worked down near there, 'cause one of my friends who used to work literally right down the road from the plant, said he used to see very rare cars in that area long before they were released to the public for sale (ie: '05 Corvette, '04 Grand Prix, and the new Impala are a couple that come to mind). I know the 'Vette isn't built in Oshawa, but when you get down in the area between the plant and GM headquarters building, you'll see the execs cruising around in their pre-production models.

Time will only tell ... I'll have to put that area on my regular "cruise route" pretty soon!!

Um, I've been seeing GMT900 models on the road now for a while. Escalade, Tahoe, and Avalanche are all available for purchase already.

Sorry, I should be more specific ... the extended cab pick-ups (Silverado & Sierra). I don't think they're on the streets yet?? At least not up here yet?? I'm pretty sure October is when they're supposed to be making the switch??

AFAIK ... Oshawa isn't the only truck plant so they could be have other plants further ahead in the changeover.

The local dealer told me that the GMT-800 extended cabs are "built out" but they were still able to order standard cab '07 Silverado Classsics.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw one in Detroit in January. Would make sense since it will supposedly hit the market a year after the coupe.

I saw a heavily-camouflaged GMT900 Sierra with manufacturer plates cruising around Okemos a couple days ago. I thought it was odd that it would be so heavily camouflaged, and yet the grille and GMC badge were plainly visible from the front. It was pretty much screaming "Hey, I'm the new GMT900 Sierra! Don't look at me!" It was escorted by about eight identical white H2's.

My biggest fear. That it will make it look a lot more pedestrian. And that will be a shame.

well, I was at ford, and their prototype/pre-production cars are made at the "pilot plant" , offical name is " New Model Programs Development Center "

there, they have a extremely flexable assembly line, where they build the prototypes, and streamline the assembly line for those same models

I would think GM might have something similar
