Too many logic pills? I don't know. Did you just improperly stated the comparison?

That Ford GT cost much more than a Mustang GT, hell, it cost much more than a Viper.

By the way, all of these vehicle comparison differentiate based on the no back seat or seat. No back seat, pay more! hahahah

The thing is I can afford the base Corvette now, and sitting in a new on the showroom floor is a great temptation. Its just that I think the top-end Camaro maybe just as good of a performer or even better than a base Corvette. I can't buy the 'vette now b/c I might really like the Camaro when it comes out and then I'd have a severe case of buyer's remorse.

Ugh! I can't believe I have to wait another year before I can get my car!

There is nothing wrong with continuing to save your money until this Sept. when the production Camaro will be unveiled in Indy. Then if you like it and think it's worth waiting for the top model then wait. If not you can probably go get an early '09 Vette and with the LS3 I doubt there will be much buyers remorse with one of the best performing sports cars on the planet at any price. Sounds like a win - win to me.

Straight talk... Unless your income is over $100,000 I will just wait and get the Camaro. I know it’s getting warmer and summer is around the corner, and you just walk in the show room and the Vette is seducing you with her Glossy paint job and sleek aero dynamic fiberglass body. However, thing to consider is insurance also, it will be cheaper to mod a Camaro than a Vette. But you got the cash to dish out then by all means get the Vette. Also as others was saying the G8 is an excellent option, and talks are the GXP version supposes to come with the LS3 that will give the Camaro a run for its money.

I'm thinking along the same lines as well, but making things worse by considering used Vettes... I've been thinking about a nice used C5 Z06 which makes it even worse, you can get a nice example for less than the friggin 5thgen will cost you. An LS3 powered Camaro will still get walked by a stock 405hp Z06 or LS2 C6 for that matter... Even the "top dawg" would probably have it's hands full if the weight is on up there depending on exactly what kind of power numbers we're talking about.

You won't have the brand new car thing but dang, you can still get a darn nice used Z06 for well under $30k that is a great, great performer all around. In another year early C6s will probably be pretty common under $30k as well...

I don't technically need the backseat for anything, but I still want a Camaro. But they don't call it the poor-mans Corvette for nothing... Maybe the poor man should just buy used...

Wifey needs a back seat, not me . She'll probably trade the SS in on a Camaro in a few years.

Having test driven the C6 Z51 on a track, I have to admit, its one freaking awesome car. However I am not much for two seaters and love the styling of the new Camaro so much more that when all is said and done, I expect to pay close to used C6 territory for one dressed just to my liking and not think twice. Perhaps in another 10-years when I'm close to retirement and hit that mid-life crisis stage a Vette will be more appealing, but for now, I'm a Camaro guy to the bone.

John H, sounds like you're as impatient and considering doing the same as I was.

My situation:
I figured that the 500+HP Camaro wouldn't be out and free of dealer gouging for another 2 or 3 years. My 100K+ miles '96 Z28 was NOT going to cut it for me as a daily driver until then. One thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on an '08 Corvette, was that even though I have a VERY understanding wife, it would be hard to justify spending $45K+ on a car now only to sell/trade-in on a $40K+ 500+HP Camaro less than 3 years down the line.

Ray86IROC......I like the way you think !

I ended up getting an '04 Z06 with 24K miles in beautiful condition for just under $30K. I spent about 1 1/2 months shopping and can confirm that there's PLENTY of reasonably priced, good, used C5 Z06's out there. Gotta be careful though, there IS some overpriced, abused JUNK out there too.

IF the "Bad-***" is everything I think it'll be when it comes out, then I'll sell/trade-in the Z06 for it. In fact my wife told me the Z06 "would have to last you until that one Camaro you want comes out". I guarantee you she wouldn't be nearly as supportive if I had bought a $48K C6 only to want to get rid of it in 2010 or 2011. The money you'll lose in depreciation compared to that brand new C6 will probably be less as well.

Buy the Vette, i owned Fcars all my life, my last one a 2000 Firehawk, with the "corvette engine" but like i said before it's never a vette, if you can afford it go for it.
i now have an 86 and 07 C6.
I never meet anyone driving a new vette wishing he had an fcar, but it sure works the other way.
