has anyone been checking news.google.com for "camaro" ?
reading non-automotive press is quite interesting ...
marketwatch.com:
reuters:
there are dozens and dozens, maybe even hundreds, of articles that are nearly all about the camaro and don't include many references to other vehicles. thats gotta be a good thing.
marketwatch.com:
Overall, the concept car looks like an updated version of the old one. Up front is the familiar grill but, set back further toward the engine with round headlights on either side, of course. Viewed the right way, the familiar coke-bottle side styling is evident. And out back, we see a blending of old Camaro styling and a touch of Corvette.
The end result is striking, and we see no reason to alter our prediction that GM will be under heavy pressure to get this car on the market as soon as possible. It's simply stunning.

Executives at GM, the world's largest automaker, cited fans' intense interest surrounding the seven-month development effort behind the 400-horsepower concept car as an indication of potential demand from buyers.
...
GM estimated 100,000 fans watched the Detroit unveiling via Webcast. It invited another 250 enthusiasts to watch in person. "It's like a cult out there," Lutz said of the Camaro fan base.

There was a big splash (with pix) on page B1 of today's Wall Street Journal. It talks about both Camaro and Challenger (and Mustang, to a lesser extent), but the biggest pic (above the fold) was of the silver Camaro concept. "General Motors Corp., desperate for a hit, with its North American operations losing millions, is gearing up for a likely relaunche of the Camaro, the muscle car that prowled American roads starting in the 1960s." The article goes on to talk about muscle car nostalgia generally (and Camaro nostalgia specifically), the success of the latest Mustang, and says that Challenger production appears to be a done deal.
Key quote:
"'The Challenger and Camaro are stealing the show,' said Mike Jackson, chairman and chief executive of AutoNation, Inc., the nation's largest chain of auto dealerships. 'The way for American car companies to compete is to build cars their competitors can't do.'"

Amen! If I wanted a bland, dull, boring, just get me from point A to B car, Toyota or Honda might be high on my list. However, I don't and they are not.
