GM really should put out a better "spy shot"
GM really should put out a better "spy shot"
Like it or not, that bland white camo-less photo was the first unofficial public unveiling of the Camaro. Without any of that zebra camo, the general public now thinks they've seen the production Camaro, minus whatever those black bras cover.
And it's a HORRIBLE picture, and it's EVERYWHERE now. This bland picture as the Camaro's first unveiling is very bad publicity.
If I were GM, I'd post up another picture but of a different colored car in better light, and post it up on a forum as a spy-shot. Of course, GM would have to take care that it looks as though an anonymous user posted the photo as to not encourage people from taking crappy spy-shots to force GM into future premature unveilings.
But the publicity from this awful, bland picture of a tall, stubby, flat-sided looking Camaro needs to be undone.

Well, it wasn't from GM. So it wasn't an 'unvieling'.
Some 'Bozo' snapped a quick shot, trying to be 'smart'. Hence the crappy quality.
That's one of the best conspirasy theorys I've heard about this pic...

What's everyone so worked up about? It's a 1/3 covered white camaro, probably about the worst color you can pick to show off bodylines. Here's a touched up image someone did which shows the bodylines much better. Oh and I love that the vents on the rear wheel wells are still there!
I don't think GM really needs to do anything. Except maybe silence the source. The fact is, the haters are going to hate, and the lovers are going to love. It's still way to early to worry about changing people's perceptions of the car.
This is going to be a mass produced car. The largest volume of sales will come from people seeing the car on the road and going, "Holy Crap!! What was that? I've got to find out." not people whom have seen an early spyshot from before the car was even close to production.
Trust me, there are enough people out there interested in buying a Camaro when they finally hit the streets that GM doesn't need to worry about how many they will sell in the first year.

There was a lot of "momentum" and positive reaction from the general public in response to the BumbleBee car and it would be good for GM to keep that going. They would do well to keep the people excited, and avoid any sort of let-downs in between.
And it's never too early to change people's perceptions. Public opinion takes a LONG time to change, and just can't be changed overnight. Emotions are often illogical and strange, and even if you see a car on the road for the first-time, you don't want to have a pre-conceived notion in your mind that the car is bland.
I think everyone needs to just let GM finish the car . There is nothing your gonna do or say to appease all the millions of close minded people that are gonna act like the prototype is showroom ready . Read some of the comments on Edmunds , Im so glad Im as completely dumb and blind as 2/3 of the people in there
Yes, i'm sure a million people just went and bought mustangs and have no desire to purchase this car because of a ****ty picture of an unfinished car. Dude everyone knows the production isn't out yet, everyone is happy to see the progress so open up your mouth pull down my fly and blow my mind.
I dont' see what the problem is the angle of the shot was well not the best but still the car looks great. I cannot wait to get one in my garage.
