To hit '08 MY they would have to release class A body tooling by... erm... 6 months ago.
Sorry, but I think you're wrong.
I'd love to be surprised, but I'm pretty sure nothing like that has been released.

Her mini van has more horses than my bird. While I can take her on a road course straight out she would win. That is how much technology has changed in the last ten years. Yes my car is a great cruiser but personally I would rather have a base V8 with 325 HP so I do not have to worry about some young punk thinking he is cool when he races ahead of me on a green light in his Dodge Neon or whatever. Chevy has to make the Base V6 or V8 hold it's own on the street. Make the base V6 standard and for say $200 you can upgrade 40 or 50 HP to a V8. I personally am going to buy a new Camaro Convertible with a base V8 and do not want to pay more than $28K for it. It should be priced inline with the Gt Vert Mustang and have slightly more HP.
My 2 cents!

(and to the other guy, I had a custom true duel exhaust on my GN with Flowmasters and no CAT. While it definately sounded bada** It did NOT sound like a V8.)

I dont know first hand about the auto industry, but as a vendor of another trade.... we get left out all the time about when our parts are actually going to be needed.
You'd think it would be to the advantage to keep your parts suppliers in the know about a new project but its just not the case.

from what I am peicing together is that the top power plant will be the LS2 or the derivative of that in 08'.
@400hp for the z28 is fine, but I hope the challanger srt8 doesn't whoop it's azz.
All in all I would pay 40k for an anniversary limited production ls7 z28, no doubt about it.

jg,
There is one thing you're forgetting here...a V6 with the same power as a V8 still does not equal a V8...in torque, in sound, in cache and in emotion. I had customers trade in TBI Firebirds and not even consider a 3800, despite the fact it was faster and got better MPG. Both were women in their late 60s/early 70s. They had to have a V8. They would not buy a V6. End of story. Like you said...logic does not dictate car sales many times.
I dare say a 325-340hp 5.3 with a 0-60 in low to mid 5s IS a performance car, and worthy of being called a muscle car, despite you claiming I contradict myself! The last time I drove my Z, I didn't think it was slow at all, and it does 0-60 around 5.5, like every other LT1 M6 ever made...
If you think that your own car's performance is not worthy of a MID LEVEL Camaro because of the high HP V6 options from other makers these days, I don't know what to tell you...it isn't like we're talking about LG4s and TBIs here, people...these mid level cars will be very competitive with top level Eclipse GTs, WRXs (short of the STis), etc...

Some of you regulars probably think I'm insane for trumpeting a mid-level car so much, but what can I say...I'm almost 26, and I want what I can afford. Plus, based on my experiences selling Firebirds, I can tell you that many, MANY would-be buyers back in '02 were turned off by the substantial price jump to get into a Formula. A $1,200 base V8 engine option on a base Firebird would have sold a ton of units for me...
Because in the end, it isn't always about the total power under the hood, but it does matter how many spark plugs there are
Plus, for someone like me, it gives me the chance to buy one new, pay it off in 5 years, then I'll be 31 and will have additional cash to buy an SS or Z28 and use my base/RS/whatever the hell it will be as a daily driver and kiss my GP goodbye...And I will bet money that there are a lot more people like me than those who will pony $30+K for the SSs and Z28s of the world. Without a doubt, the boomers like my dad will flock to those...but IMO, it all starts with affordable performance, and that equals 8 friggen cylinders under a base car's hood...
guion, I hope you are right my friend

We'll leave the Roush and Saleen models for Mr. Rosen to embarrass.
...but since dreamers can dream, if I were calling the shots, they'd be as follows:
V6(210-220hp) - no need to go crazy with the HP numbers since the majority of this market is looking at asthetic appeal.
V8(275-285hp/300ftlb TQ) - not quite as quick as a GT, but cheaper, and with a few mods, up over the stock GT level (mod companies would charge full steam at this model)
V8(400hp like concept) - torch the GT right off the floor, plus creature comforts to boot.
V8(450-500hp) - GT500 eater. For those with fatter wallets or no fear of bigger debt.

So to summarize....
A few (non-winkie club) say late MY 2007.
Some (including winkie club) say/imply MY 2008.
Others (including winkie club) say/imply MY 2009.
Some press (non-winkie club) sources say MY 2010.
Scott (founding winkie member and Sheriff) says don't believe everything you read.
Shew....glad we got that all settled.
