DOD cut off

The DOD that is coming on the new camaro how many want a switch to cut it off like the one to cut traction control off. I would like away to cut it off I want the car to sound good running down the road on all 8 cylinders

Re: DOD cut off

I would like to be able to as well. I'm just worried about how quick it will react around town or even on the hwy when you punch it.

Exactly how I feel and think it does not belong on a performance car to begin with. If it makes uncle sam happy for mileage standards so be it but I want a way to cut it off and keep it off. It will be great for the average buyer out there but there is a lot of us here and other boards as a whole who will more than likely change to a good sounding exaust and more open. How can it sound good running like a 4 banger

Re: DOD cut off

On a stock exhaust, oddly enough, there is no change whatsoever in tone, not sure how it'd sound w/ an aftermarket though. With ANY kind of load at all it's running on 8, so I don't think you'd have to worry about the sound, when it SHOULD be sounding good. Heck if anything, on the highway, it might quiet things down a bit!

The DOD engages faster than you can perceive, there is no seat of the pants delay at all.

I'll agree w/ it being good for quieting down on the hwy. Love the sound when I am on the gas tho!

Re: DOD cut off

Hopefully DOD will be an option and not standard (I wouldn't pay extra for it), as for traction control...I'm sure there will be a chip and/or hack that'll enable it to be cut off when not needed (like in the burnout box at the track).

Re: DOD cut off

I think everybody is overreacting to the DOD...I've seen some say they won't buy the car if there's no way to turn it off.

I can gaurantee that within a few months of the first cars rolling off the line SLP or somebody will come up with a DOD override switch that plugs into the harness. Turn off the juice to the solenoid that shuts oil flow on/off to the lifters and you've defeated the feature.

Alternatively I'm sure there'd be a way to turn it off in the PCM.

I'll even go one further in that once you have it, you'll see that it really doesn't impinge on your fun, and all you do is save gas w/ it. I've actually gone the other way and wondered if we could get a switch that would leave it in full time 4cyl mode, for when you're idling in traffic (it idles on all 8), or just parked for an extended period w/ the engine running.

Before you swear off on it, at least try it first.

Re: DOD cut off

Oh, it better have an off switch. There is no way it can not sound different with an aftermarket exhaust, which I would have within 4 hours of buying the car. I would use this feature on trips and when I do not really care what my car sounds like. But, for the most part, I am uninterested in it. And, it will raise the price of the car, but that will eventually be offest by the price you pay for gas. I am sure SLP will have a hack for disabling it, but that will probably void your engine warranty, and most people can not afford that. So, please have an off switch.

I wouldnt mind it being standard at all. No off switch necessary. You cant tell its there so who cares? I really dont see what the big deal is. Traction control yes I see the need to shut it off and thats an option I really want nothing to do with period because of the hard time ditching it on my 96. As for DOD, bring it on I'd love to have it.

So you're going to mod your car, and presumably race it as well, and yet you're worried about the equivalent of a CAGS disabler voiding the engine warranty?

Very good point about it potentially quieting it down while at cruise. Cutting the # of exhaust pulses in half, should effectively ELIMINATE the ~2K resonance point that most aftermarket exhausts suffer from while under light cruise.

That sounds great to me since i've had my share of loud cars and do WAY too much highway cruising to live with a droning *** loud exhaust.

Re: DOD cut off

Im more worried about an automatic headlight off switch. In order to have the headlights off while my 98 is running, you have to pull the emergency brake then start the car in park. Drop the E brake and you have to shut the car off and pull it back up. I could never back into my drive because my headlights went right into my neighbors windows.

It was neat sometimes but I didnt like it forcing me to have them on.

I can only assume that there will be a defeat for the DRL's. My 06 Cobalt has that and so should the Camaro. Yet you know GM...
