Re: Convertible poll

I say softop to keep cost down. And they could always make a removable hardtop to fit it if they wanted to to sell it seperately.

Re: Convertible poll

On a car like the Camaro, I think the costs should be held low. Also, even though a hardtop convertible sounds cool, they never really look right in execution (MB SL being the exception, but its a two seater and costs megabucks). Stay with cloth. The premium cloth tops with sound deadener insulation and headliner, and glass rear window wear like iron and inside you'd never know you weren't in a steel roofed car.

Just an opinion.

Re: Convertible poll

I voted soft top. I don't see why that would preclude a removable hardtop option though.

Re: Convertible poll

Id like a soft-top with either a hardtop convertible top or removable hardtop as an option. Now that would be cool.

Re: Convertible poll

Please make the top like the 4th generations. A nice cloth with the glass rear window with defrost. Price it about $2500 over the hard top and make it available the first year. If the new 5th gen doesn't have T-Tops I could see it being available the 1st year. It better be I want one.

I agree and me and my wife really want a vert and would like to have one soon but I was told not the first year.

Re: Convertible poll

Soft top. Hard top verts look odd to me (most of them anyway) and it would be more expensive and heavier. A removable top is just a big hassel if you have to get someone to help remove it and put it back on, not to mention what happens when you get caught in the rain.

Re: Convertible poll

I am in the market for a new pony car convert in the next year or 2. Willing to spend upwards of 30k. If the general cannot provide one the first year of production I think I may look elsewhere. I have a 95 Bird Vert and that Challenger is looking mighty fine in vert form from photoshops I have seen. Spoke to my Dodge dealer and he said it is a go for 2007 with a Vert coming in around June.

Dunno if you will be able to touch at Challenger vert for 30k, I would think they are going to be more like 40k. Not to bash, just making a statement.

As for the top, keep it soft for a lower price.

Re: Convertible poll

I feel that the Challenger vert will only be available with the Hemi the first year and personally if I am going to spend that much I might as well buy a Vette that is a year or 2 old. I would like to see the Camaro Vert the same time as the hard top and if the start the engineering for it the same time as the hard top I feel we will see it the first year. I do not think Dodge could bring the Challenger with a V8 under 30K and I think they would be pushing the limit even with a V6 which would probably be around the Z/28 price for a Vert.

I have a feeling the Challenger will be offered as a 'vert but dont trust dealers. They know little about manufacturers future plans 98% of the time and will do anything to garner interest and business. Numerous Chevy dealers said Camaro wasnt coming back as little as a few months ago.

Also everything Ive read on here has said Dodge is planning the Challenger to be a low volume deal so I would expect V8 only cars. Personally I hope Dodge rethinks this and offers the Challenger in pony car trim levels but everything Ive seen points to V8 only low volume production

Re: Convertible poll

Actually a high school hockey buddy runs a Dodge Dealership and his dad owns it. He has been very reliable on future offerings and what is upcoming.
He has owned the dealership for over 40 years and made it thru the downturn in the late 70's early 80's and is a prized Dodge dealer.
You are right don't trust any cause they will BS you till they are blue in the face but off the record over a few cold ones the truth does come out.

Re: Convertible poll

I know it doesn't seem likely, but I hope they do a convertible the first year. I sold my 96Z convertible back in October and the empty garage is killing me!!! Not to mention that spring is right around the corner...

The GTO is looking better and better to tide me over until the Camaro comes back...
