Re: Camaro vs. Tuner Camaro

For now, I have to say no. I would only consider a second sticker/GM endorsed/COPO type of tuner car. No privateer, unapproved packages. I would like to see a Rousch or other established tuner working with GM on the top GM model of Camaro a la SLP and ASC cars of the past. It would have to be a GM RPO level package.

Re: Camaro vs. Tuner Camaro

I'm with you guys. If GM sponsors it, I may consider it. But if the stock SS has like 450 HP, window tint and cat-back will do me just fine. Can you guys believe we're talking about a factory fresh Camaro with 400+ horse? 5/6 years ago that would've sounded so ridiculous.

You'd have much better results with this poll if you dropped the Rousch name and used SLP, Lingenfelter or Berger as an example . . . all who will be offering Camaro packages anyway.

Camaro will end up being my daily driver, so no mods at first. I might go with a nicer sounding cat back, and a shifter change, but that will be the extent till warranty is up.

I'd buy a Callaway 5th gen if they made one with an AeroBody.

Re: Camaro vs. Tuner Camaro

As for me, it depends on the options in the second year when I'll by one. Can we do any head-cam or s/c or turbo ect... without vioding the warrenty? If we do a heads and cam swap, would it only viod valve train warrenty or all of it? Just something to think about when chosing "tuner" or not.

I am going to look into either a Berger or Baldwin-Motion Camaro in 09'. I have already opened a bank account just for purchasing this car and I want to get the baddest factory or dealer built one I can find even if I have to mortgage the house to get it.

Re: Camaro vs. Tuner Camaro

depends on what's done to it to make it a "tuner" style.

I have to agree with this. There may be talk of Roush helping develop a 5th gen Camaro, but until something materializes out of it companies like Berger, Calloway, and (especially) Lingenfelter are the kind of names people associate with GM "tuners". I left out SLP because SLP engineering is dead; we won't be seeing any more cars straight from SLP in the future.

Re: Camaro vs. Tuner Camaro

A tuned Camaro would be bad ***. oh wait a minute isn't that what LPE dose? They used to make 500-600 Hp Camaros befor they were killed. GM should build a LS7 Camaro and it should be called COPO (If you didn't know COPO stands for Central Office Production Order).

Re: Camaro vs. Tuner Camaro

An LS7 Camaro would do better being called ZL1 if it's an extremely limited edition, otherwise just call it Z28. COPO is a weird obsession people have with an old program and badgeless cars with cheap wheels. I can't see a modern day COPO version being true to the heritage of the name and successful at the same time.
