Camaro SS or new G8 GT for $23.4?

Well a unique oportunity fell in my lap today. I got an offer from the GM Mastercard that allows me up to $5000 off eligible GM vehicles, G8 GT being one of them. The short of it is, the dealer will sell it to me for invoice, then it gets $4500 off from rebates and GM loyalty stuff, then I can redeem another $5000 from my GM mastercard (as luck would have it, I have $5017 in earnings ). A $34,040 GT turns into a $23,441 GT, a 31% savings off sticker, brand new.

Thoughts?

Boy, tough call. The G8 GT is a nice car but it is no Camaro. If you are looking for a really nice sporty daily drive go for the G8 GT. If you are looking for an instant-classic muscle car then there is no question the Camaro is the way to go. Nobody will remember a G8 in 20 years from now. Nice care though...

I think the G8 will have a legacy, espically it being the last pontiac performance car made. (Even though its a Holden)

Any chance of a G8 GXP being on there?

Still $23k is a hell of a deal. I say sleep on it, talk to the wifey, and then decide.

No contest.

G8 GT is steal for anything under 30K.

At $23.4K, you're basically being given the keys and paying the cost of manufacture.

Clean, this one's a no brainer.

Very tough call on this one IMO. The G8 will with out a doubt be more of a rare car to have. Chevy, more then likely, will still be around to continue making Camaros for a few more years to come at least, but you will NEVER have the chance to buy a new G8, especially at that price. I would get that car and put it away if I could afford to do that, because it is going to be worth a pretty penny one day.

If you're going to get a new vehicle and it is going to be driven alot and not kept as a collector, then I would say go with the Camaro!

...or the G8....no the Camaro....no the G8 for sure....but wait the Camaro....but but but....I wish I had that problem on my hands!

Buy what you want, don't worry what will be a collector's car. If you buy a car for its future value, then you will have too much fear of driving it to enjoy it.

However, that is a smoking deal on the car. It would be a tough choice for me, I really like the G8's. Since it is so cheap, could you pay the car off in a 2~3 years? I think the current generation Camaro will be around until 2016. You could buy the G8 now and still get the current gen Camaro before its replaced with a new model.

I'd go for it and now that I just check my balance and I'm also over the $5K earnings it's got me thinking.....I am going to look into this.

As I already have a 73 Z w/ LS1 swap I really don't need a new one and I could use a better driver than my 300M.

The GXP is included . I think we're going to do it. The deal is that the Camaro was pretty much for wifey, and she's not as into G8's as I am, but at the same time, she is her fathers daughter, and no deal, especially a smoking deal, gets by her. I think our plan will be to get the G8, keep it for a year or 2, then grab a Camaro and dump either the vette or G8 for it. Expect updated sig soon.

Except for the fact that the minute you drive the car off the lot it depreciates several thousand dollars. If one were to really attempt that, I'd think they'd be breaking even give or take a thousand.

You could do like dealers and others have been doing with the Camaros. Go to the dealer and take pics of the G8 GT. (Maybe even a couple different colors/options) Then post them in an ad on craigslist and see if you get any hits. If they accept, buy the car and sell it to them the same day.
