Holds up well, but god are those garbage can muufflers ugly as sin. Yeah if you drove a 4th gen you knew you better not get into a wreck.

Looks like the rear fascia is missing.

Yeah if you drove a 4th gen you knew you better not get into a wreck.
But back in the day, the 4th gen f-body got very high rankings for safety in comparison to the standards and requirements.

Yeah they might have had high ranking but in the real world the people i know that had them didn't always fare too well.

Re: Camaro Safety

The video doesn't exactly tell the story though. You want it to crumple around the cabin, absorbing impact as much as possible and dispersing it around the structure, with minimal impact transferring to the cabin. You don't want it to remain rigid. When that happens, the impact is transferred fully to the cabin, and then the occupants absorb it.

So is the 5th Gen driver. You just don't see it because of the modern side curtain bag.

In actuality the 4th Gen, while the front definitely "crumples" more, does a fine job of keeping the cockpit intact. As Jason explained that is the main thing. I'd feel perfectly safe in either vehicle.

The other thing we don't know is at what speed(s) the cars were tested at. Are they both the same?

Re: Camaro Safety

the driver is going to feel the impact no matter what car their in.....im just commenting on the actual crumple zone of the 4th gen compared ot the 5th gen.

Re: Camaro Safety

I broadsided a Jeep in a 2nd gen (he ran a red) at about 60 mph and walked away from it. F-bodies have always been good in crash except for maybe 1st gens, that is.
