However, the new Camaro will not be made in Australia. GM has confirmed it will be built in Canada from late next year.

 

I wonder how many camo-sniper-photographers we'll have scouring AU for the shots after this announcement.

Rumor has it that the plant is large enough to run two separate lines though......and probably wil be outfitted as such in the beginning...

 

All good news IMO. I was happy to hear the Commadore SS-V is getting closer to being announced as the new Grand Prix.

 

I do not know anything about this rumor, but it would be nice. I personally feel it would suck to have an in demand car ready to go, but you cannot build it because of space. There is a lot going on behind the scenes and prior commitments that have to be addressed for GM corporate, but I would really prefer to get the Camaro out earlier. Then again I am just a fan and have no financial stake in GM, nor an expert in the automotive business.

 

Isnt the fleet versions of the Grand Prix up to the ax pretty soon? And then the Aussie built, short run, RWD Grand Prix comes over in a couple years or less.... so im wondering if that s how they are going to start making Camaro's early in one of the plants??

 

How reliable can this article be? I personally remain very very skeptical as to the validity of this timeline. Everything that has been discussed thus far points to a late 08 production. Even our friends from the Oshawa plant state that nothing has been said about earlier than late 08 production to date. Do you all really think this is even a possibility?

 

oh i'm definately taking that timeline with a grain of salt.. first i thought it was a typo... but then you pointed out that they repeated it later on...

so i'm thinking they are just misinformed, made a mistake, or whatever... who knows.. but i'm not gonna get my hopes up over one Aussie article

 

The 2008 date could also be referring to the final production vehicle unveiling and not that the cars will be for sale then. Assuming of course that we don't see a production version next month in Detroit. Either way, I can't wait to see some pics of them on the road.

Yes the plant is large enough to run two lines. It has two lines now. However, The new flex line will not begin setup until Jan. 2008. Plant/line 2 will still run the impala and lacrosse. Unless they can set up a new state of the art facility overnight or there is something going on that I am not aware of, the timeline in the article is wrong.
