Building VIN's above 6000 already.....
Building VIN's above 6000 already.....
Got my VIN today fresh from dealer and GM and it is
2G1FT1EW9A9106046
For those of you who follow these things this is a 2SS, stick, RS, Inferno, black. They are building in the 6000's already. (Mine is 6046...last 4 of the VIN)

Actually the last 8 digits tell the story of any car
From the VIN above:
A=2010MY
9=Oshawa Car Assembly Plant
1=Placeholder/Startpoint - when a plant builds 2 different kinds of cars they will choose different placeholders for each model. Since no plant can build more than 1,000,000 vehicles total in a model year, using different placeholders gives a easy indication from someone reading a VIN what model of car it is out of that plant. For example if Oshawa built Camaro and Model X on the same line, that placeholder might start with a 5 instead of a 1. Camaros would have VINs 100001 thru 499999 (potentially, that's a lot of cars!) and Model X would have 500001 thru 999999
Last 5 (and eventualy 6 ) digits = sequence numbers (although VINs are not built sequentially online, but it is a rough estimate of total cars made up to that point)

dealer told me yesterday that the car is 80% built and needs some sideline work...something to do with inferno interior. She thinks it will land at her store which is in a small town in eastern ontario in 7-10 days. Here is to hoping....
