Anybody else tired of waiting?

We bought the SS in Dec. of 1999. Tammy, (my wife) has been driving it almost ever since and right now it's only got 55K on it. When they ceased production of the F-body in '02 I heard wild rumors that possibly it would be back in '07. That didnt bother me too bad, because I knew by then I should be in decent shape to buy one. Well '07 is here and the '08s will be hitting the lots soon and now its pretty set in stone that the Camaro wont be back till first 1/4 of '09. Add that to the fact that in all likelyhood the "top dog, big secret engine combo" wont be out till at least a year after that and let's just say life is too damn short to spend it waiting on a friggin car that we cant even get any details on and I just got tired of it all and bought something else! NO, ITS NOT A FORD OR A DODGE! We picked up a new '06 Torrid Red GTO a couple days ago and we got it for LESS than we paid for the SS 8 years ago! For those that might not know, it's an LS2, 400 HP, 400 ft lbs TQ and the quality is light years ahead of the SS! Who knows, in 3 or 4 years when the top Camaro FINALLY hits the dealerships I might pick one up then but life is too short to wait on pipe dreams and promises. Live for today because none of us are guaranteed tomorrow!

Well I sure wish it was here now and I could have fun pouring over the option book, and I definitely hear what you're sayin'... but from what I can see, this car is gonna be well worth waiting an extra model year or 2 to get your mitts on one.
I feel pretty fortunate in that I got my SS new in '98 and the thing is running better than ever, and giving me more enjoyment than ever! (which is probably why I have no intention of unloading it when my 5th Gen arrives in my drive!) I sure ain't feeling hard done by having to wait for the "top dawg", considering the fun I'm having with my '98!
Enjoy the GTO!

Best regardSS,

Elie

My problem is that I get sick of whatever car I currently have after about a year. By far my favorite was my '99 Pontiac Firehawk T/A. Friggin sweet car. I had to sell that to buy a house a couple of years ago( I paid cash for the car and needed the money for a down payment). I wanted something newer that was still under warranty that I could finance so I bought an '04 Mustang GT(I'm sorry!). The car is okay but I was pretty much sick of it and missing my Firehawk after about 3 months. Since I financed the Mustang I committed in my mind that I would not buy another car(for myself. Wife is different story) until the Camaro comes out so maybe I will have a little bit of equity in my Mustang when I sell it. Well, I've had the Mustang for almost 2 years and I'm wondering if I can handle the wait for the new Camaro. Still a year and a half away. To put this in perspective, I have owned 17 cars and I'm only 32. Luckily after the first few I got smart about ROI and only made smart purchases. But for me to own the same car for 4 years is a big deal.

I certainly share your frustration. We got our SS in July '99 and have over 80,000 mostly fun miles on it. We've been used "patches" over the years, the 1LE for autoX and track days, the TB/SS for the best "winter" Camaro I've ever driven, the Silverado to see how far GM engineering has come and now a Solstice on order for my wife so she can get started in autoX to get ready for the 5th gen!

Enjoy the GTO ... I might be doing the same if they were available in Canada.

Ive seen your rides before when we were all in Bowling Green Art. We didnt sell or trade the SS. In fact, I just came in from giving it a REALLY good bath and after a break Im gonna go get started on the whole Zaino regimen again. I FINALLY got the wife out of it so it will stay clean!
Prolly gonna do the GTO this weekend too. If there's a better product on the market than Zaino I sure havent found it yet!

The time goes by faster than you think.

We're lucky. We were able to keep our Hawk and get an 04 GTO for my wife's DD.

You'll love the GTO. It's a very nice car. The interior is supurb! Sit in it and realize it's an 8 year old platform... and how nice it is... and know the same folks that did that interior are doing the Camaro.

I'm only tired of all the threads about toys and movies about toys!

Yeah, we're looking forward to the new car, the wife especially, but the expectation of huge dealer markups on the V8 models are dulling it somewhat. I'm thinking we're gonna hold off for a couple of years and get her a 2012, a 20th anniversary model of her 25th! lol

I finished paying for my truck about 6 months ago, so no payments are nice, but if GM released the car tomorrow, I'd be standing in line!

I really wish they'd come out at least a year from now, oh well. By the time I can order one, or wait for dealers to quit price gouging it will probably be mid/late '09..... 2 years really is a long friggin time to wait for a car....

The car is not that far off we are with in 18 months of relase and I would expect with in 12 months of seeing a pre production car.

While the Challanger will be out first it is not that far ahead. I expect GM will counter its release with a lot of Camaro sightings and info. It is not quite now because there is no news, it is quite as it is not time.

I too am tied of the toys and the lack of news.

Word to the wise I would keep my eyes and ears open as this thing is far enough along we will have parts of the car around us and we may not even know it. The C5 was under a Camaro for a long time before we saw the car. I expect GM to do a fair amount of testing here too soon.

Too often we see something here and never know what we missed. Too often what we crave is in plain sight and we just don't know it.

I've just got to say... Since I'm temporarily stuck in Whitehorse in the Yukon, I'll GLADLY volunteer my services for cold weather/winter testing, once it hits the inevitable -40

If you're going to wait until next year anyway, why not wait a few more months for the Camaro??

17 months 'til 1st Quarter '09. Is that REALLY that long?

Yeah - I'm sick, too.......of people who are sick of waiting! That sounds harsh, but c'mon - there isn't anyone on this board that doesn't want the car to be out tomorrow! So what's the point of posting that you're sick of waiting? Do you want GM to speed up? There are those who don't. Do you want others to join you and buy something else? Do you want someone to talk you out of it?

It seems like every couple of months someone whines about how they HAVE to get something else because they're tired of waiting.......jeez, get over it!! We knew it'd be a wait when the car was shown.

I'm not the most patient person, but y'know, I would take this waiting over 4 years ago hands down! Just remember what it was like: ZERO prospect of a new Camaro, mileage is piling up on your current car, you know that based on driving habits, etc. you need to get a new car eventually - but there's nothing on the market that is interesting, much less exciting. So you fill with dread, wondering when the next, truly great car will come along. Well here we are!!!!!!!! The new Camaro won't necessarily be great - but at least we have the prospect to look forward to!! ENJOY THIS TIME, don't moan about it!!

WHOA WHOA WHOA, BTF up a little! If you read my post, then you would see that I NEVER said I wasnt gonna buy one WHEN they do finally get here. In fact, I thought I made it pretty damn clear that when they do get here and the top options are available I should be in shape to BUY ONE THEN. But in the meantime, life goes on and its too short to be waiting and waiting and waiting. I'd much rather be the one who waited that extra year or so and got the car I want instead of one of the ones who scooped up the first yr that came out and had to eat all that depreciation when I traded it in the very next year. When do you plan on buying yours by the way? Just how F-body loyal are you anyway? We've owned SIX of em and fully plan on buying a 5th gen when they get here.
