What I am saying is they should make an uber Camaro that has a racing heritage, much like the way the current Corvette Z06 has a racing heritage.

What they call it exactly does not matter. However, if its going to handle and perform like an all-around performance car (i.e. more than just straight-line accelleration), then one name makes more sense from a historic-racing heritage perspective.

That is very interesting and all; however, you are confusing simple option codes with ones that became their own level of trim as well. Slap a badge on the side and it is a trim level.

Besides, saying that Z06 is simply an option code wouldn't prevent it's use on other models. How many 1LT and 1LSs are there floating around? Is it the same content on each car?

I have been hanging around this forum to know exactly what you were saying. I don't mind teasing the Z28 camp when they whine about trim levels (or the SS camp for that matter).

 

ok, 305fan. I don't know about 2 SS maros. But here's a point I'd like to bring up. The mustang has what... 4 trim levels. Mustang, Mustang GT, Mustang Cobra, Mustang Saleen and Saleen Cobra. Ok 5, so why can't the Maro. We get...

Mid-level V8
performance V8
Super V8

So why settle for just 3...when we could go for 4. Two SS...hm...perhaps. But why not just drop the old school designations...and come up with all-new ones that will send a whole new sense of fear down the competitions spine. Just my 2 cents

I kinda like the idea of 2 SS models. Only if they looked identical on the outside. A factory sleeper would be tempting. It would be fun to line up at the track and have the guy next to me wonder; "How bad is this guy going to beat me? By a little or a lot?"

Ford only offers 3 different models from the factory. The V6, GT, and GT500. The others are aftermarket tuner cars.

 

There will not be two v8 options. Tell me why their would be? There is no cost justification and the bean counters would be convinced you need two v8 options.

I'll try to reason it out for you but you have likely made up your mind and cannot be swayed.

Why can the Mustang have two V8s (4.6L GT and 5.4L S/C V8) and not the Camaro? From what I have heard either a Boss or Mach 1 will come out too.
A 5.4L NA engine, that would makes three.

By broadning the cars appeal through some choices (choice is good!) the car can sell better. Some people want a V8 but 325ish hp is great for them. Other want and will pay for 400+hp.

So if you can explain why the Mustang has two and more then likely three V8 engines but some how the Camaro cannot please do.

 

Makes sense, but knowing how GM operates I would be pretty surprised to see two V8 options.
