AE on the Camaro:it's about the V6.
GM, Chevrolet. Journalists were given yet another preview of the Camaro concept this week, but GM would not confirm that the project is a "go." We can confirm, however, that the make-or-break business case for the new Camaro won't be the 400HP V-8, six-speed version, because GM can do that car in its sleep and make it great - and that package is as close to being a "no-brainer" as you can possibly get. The real issue is the V-6 version, a car that must be worthy of the Camaro nameplate, first of all, and be premium in every respect - while delivering an outstanding performance/value equation vis-a-vis the competition. This is the car that GM must get right if the Camaro is going to be a success in the market. We'll stick by what we said immediately after the Detroit auto show, however: The Camaro is a done deal - GM is just making sure that it's every bit as good as people want it to be. And we'll probably get official confirmation of its production timetable by the fall.
Re: AE on the Camaro:it's about the V6.
How cool would it be if they made a V6 that was the same price as a V6 Mustang...and would out run a Mustang GT?
Maybe that isn't as hard as it sounds. All you would have to do is make the car lighter than 3700#s and make it put down more than 270 hp.

Heh. I was mostly commenting on how regularly visiting this site makes all of the regular info outlets seem pretty silly.
But is the word HF as the base V6 or as an optional one?

I really think Chevy needs a killer V-6 RS package and a standard V-6. The RS"s of the 4th gen weren't anything too special. If the RS package would have 15-20 extra horse, some styling cues on a already attractive base, especially with gas the way it is... there'd be something there.
Re: AE on the Camaro:it's about the V6.
Great milage, more power at the price of the Mustang. Can it be done
Will they spend the money on a high feature and do it right engine or can they get by with a pushrod engine that was pushing 300 HP? I say the new HF V6 will be needed!
If you can kill em on features and win them with a lot of power.
No matter what they do they need to make sure the V6 has a killer sounding exhaust. A 60 degree engine can sound like a killer Ferrari. Just listen to a stock Fiero V6.
If the V6 sounds like a worn out school bus it can be a big turn off.

That direct injection VVT 3.6 liter v6 they're talking about over on GMI sounds like the next big think @ gm powertrain, and with a 2008 model year introduction fits our "timetable" right. Hopefully this is the way they go!
