Yeah its a fast car, it may not be your version of fast, but its a fast car none the less. The tone of your post suggest that (and I'm not saying that you are - perhaps you've just grown up around very high horspeower cars all your life) your an 18 or 20 something that started to get into cars when GM was making 275+ hp for its performance models.

I find it amazing that people consider any car that can do less than 14 seconds in the 1/4, 0-60 in less than 6 seconds and goes over 140 mph to be slow, but to each there own; a Mustang GT is a fast car, an F5 SS is a damn fast car, and a ZR1 is an insanely fast car - for all of them to be readily accessible vehicles from a mainstream auto manufacturer.

I am actually 27 and have been a muscle car fan since I was about 10 years old. I disagree with you prior logic because I believe fast cars are fast cars compared to cars of their era, yes it eventually has to cap off but it certainly didn't in the 60's or 70's. The GT is faster than your average car, but not up to par with it competition. Just like has already been brought up in this post it has still not matched the LS1 the Z28 debuted with over 10 years ago.

True. The V6 Camaro for instance is fast for it's time for whta it is and actually decently fast compared to all musclecars ever made. The GT is pretty fast compared to all musclecars but an underperformer for it's times since Camaro's were doing it better and faster over 10 years ago. We'll just have to see what happens when they move to 400HP, knowing them I don't expect much though.

Additionally, they had stock exhaust manifolds, but they put headers in the trunk in the case the buyer wanted to install them.

Not a single ZL1 ever went 12.50 in a 100% stock form. Period.

Also, there is a poplular myth that the ZL1's couldn't be tested on the rollers at Norwood becuase they were too powerful (anyone who ever visited the Norwood plant and took the tour understands this). The truth is the the workers claimed this so they could take the cars outside -- on the backside of the plant opposite of the old Twin Drive-In theater -- and smoke the tires to their hearts' content. Consequently, the ZL1's tires were abused beyond belief when they were delivered to the customers. Since most of the customers were NHRA teams, it didn't matter how bad the tires were when delivered.

My uncle, still has photos of several ZL1's being abused at Norwood after they came off the line.

It's always a good thing to stick to real facts as opposed to "internet facts".

Heh, I thought so (and I'm not saying this to be derogatory in any way), sign of the times I guess

Naw, things capped off - well more like fell off a cliff due to the safety (err, read insurance) and environmental regulations of the day. 1970 was generally the last hoo-rah with the exception of a few cars and trucks (I guess most notably the last SD-455 F3 and that red truck thingy from dodge).

Well its been that way since 1993 (unfortunately - and I still haven't forgiven Ford for making a 5.8 V8 only available in a frigg'n limited production race car), you know oddly enough, until recently that has never seemed to bother Ford? I'd say from 1993 to 2002 they just didn't give a damn because it wasn't a truck or part of PAG, from 2003 to 2008 the competition really didn't exsist anymore if you were into a relatively affordable RWD V8 car, in any event we'll see in the next year or so (although I'm starting to get skeptical on the 400hp deal - somebody some place else brought up an intersting point - If Jag can only get 385hp out of a 5.0 how the hell is Ford going to get 400hp out of a 5.0 V8 in a car that costs half as much - anyways fingers crossed, MY 2011 can't get here fast enough)
