By published specs, the GT500 weighs 3924 pounds. That's about the same as an SS automatic (3913) and is about 50 pounds heavier than an SS manual (3860).

The current GT500 5.4 has an iron block that along with some other factors makes it significantly heavier than other Mustangs. The 2011 will have an aluminum block.

12.7 is about what I'd predict for an SS with a good driver on a good track in good air. However, I haven't seen any documentation of a bone stock SS running that yet. Could you please post your source?

ill have to do more research on what web page i found that on. but i found one on camaro5 that ran 12.87 at 111 . didnt see what the 60' time was though 12.7 is possible with a tire change for sure or even letting tire pressure out of the stock tires.

I know about the 12.87.

Please do find that elusive 100% from-the-factory bone stock 12.7 info.

Tks.
Bob

I've seen the 12.7 rumors floating around, but the proof remains elusive. I think it was someone on here who knew an insider at GM who said an SS test car ran 12.7 @ 113. No pics of time slips unfortunately.

I have little doubt its possible....but if one is going to claim it, one should at least provide some evidence (not talking about you, HOTCIVIC ).

Since somebody revived this thing from the dead. I was proven right on my prediction!

Camaro looks to be a pretty good bang for the buck.

You must own a SS, i definitely understand why you are so mad at the new GT500. In every comparison you are being destroyed by the GT500. on the paper or the reality way better car then Camaro SS. Oh maybe you are so disappointed that GM is back on the production of the Z28 which will hopefully destroy the GT500, and you spent all your money on the SS thinking Z28 will not be in production ever. Relax, SS is underpowered compared to the GT500.

Your missing the point, in most cases stock for stock the SS F5 is performing uncomfortably close to the GT500 for the price. The conclusion naturally being that when the Z/28 rolls out an F5 for GT500 money is going to absolutely destroy the GT500.

Which may or may not be the case? Ford is in a good position to trim weight while GM looks like they will be packing it on.

IMO its gonna be a tough job for GM, Z/28 to remain consistant with the SS metric will have to beat GT500 in not only performance but also content for nearly the same or better price.

I think the real comparisons that are coming will be way more apples to apples and pretty dang exciting!
If the new 2011 Mustang GT gets 400hp and a six speed, as rumored, it should be direct competition to the current SS.
A lightened 2011 GT500 should be good competition to the rumored Z28.
(I say rumored because they aren't on the ground. In this day and age nothing is solid)

Should be some great fun coming!
Too bad the Challenger is just too underpowered to really get in the action....

Yea, I haven't heard a peep about the supercharged SRT in over a year (yes... Chrysler actually had one in development....as well as a larger displacement Hemi!).
