2010 Camaro in NHRA Pro Stock?

Just wondering if anyone has heard any information about if the Camaro will replace the Cobalt in NHRA Pro Stock. How about a 2010 Camaro funnt car? I do know Suncoast is already making carbon fiber Pro Modified bodies.

Since the majority of the "body" is not even close to a production cars body, I could see it happening. As far as Pro stock or not, it all depends on the manufacturers/Chevy right?

secretly, i want to see John Force lose to a Camaro funny car....

I think that would depend on what car GM wants to market more in NHRA. To me it's a no brainier as the Camaro is a RWD car and should take it's place back in NHRA like it's 1st through 4th Gen forbearers did. I could see the NHRA PS teams wanting to stick with the Cobalt as it has a shorter wheelbase and they have already dialed in the set ups. The wind tunnel may also be a deciding factor as I'd think the Cobalt is better on aero and slimmer than a Camaro's larger frontal area.

Isn't it just paint and graphics on a fiberglass shell that doesn't really mimic the production car's body? I don't think those "cobalt" NHRA cars share a wheelbase or any body contours with the production Cobalt.

That's more Nascar's style. The bodies on NHRA Pro Stockers more closely mimic production cars than Nascar does.

I think you might be talking about NHRA Funny Car that has a flip top body with really just stickers and a brand emblem to identify what kind of car it's supposed to be. In the NHRA Pro Stock ranks, aka door slammers, the cars' body is far closer to production standards than even say NASCAR as was mentioned above.
The pics above of the Bumblebee 5th Gen are Pro Mod I believe and those cars just have to somewhat look like a production car if the driver/team wants them to.

that's exactly what I was thinking of. Thanks for the information. I guess I've never seen an NHRA Pro Stock race

Take a look at a semi-current pro stocker:

NHRA Pro Stock isn't quite as impressive as say the Top Fuel or Funny Car's with the blown nitro engines but they are very cool in their own right. Pro Stock is very driver oriented with lots of the work coming on the starting line and getting the jump when the light goes green. They still shift too, although it's just pulling back one lever per gear. Normal runs now are in the upper 6 second range at over 200 mph trap speeds. Not bad for an 500 cubic inch V8 N/A on gas.
I recommend seeing an NHRA event in person as it's not quite like anything else in motorsports or spectator sport period.

Not one lever per gear anymore, just one lever these days. Pro Stock is probably my favorite class, but there's nothing like the nitro classes, anywhere.
