[Paint & Body] SS Stripes

SS Stripes
I am concerned about the fact that the SS stripes are NOT factory painted but rather dealer installed decails. Great, now we have to worry about some dude getting it straight by eye not to mention it will catch wax and possibly peel? Does anyone have any thoughts? Will the stripes be a regret as years pass given they are NOT painted. What's up with that? PS: Ordered 1st SS in Syracuse NY on Oct 13th! Can't wait for the rumble in Spring Oh-9!

I actually stopped by a shop yesterday to ask, but the owner was out and I didn't feel like waiting for him.
Some colors will cost a little more than others, but it's a fairly straight forward job with minimal prep work. I'm thinking just a little more than the vinyl would cost, but you would have something unique.
I've just found myself wondering what Red Jewel rally stripes would look like on black....

Also with having the stripes painted on I can choose to have the stripes look the way I want them to. I'm not thrilled with the factory stripes seen so far as they don't cross over to the front fascia like GM already showed us for Bumblebee and the Orange Concept convert. I understand that having vinyl stripes going around the mailslot opens them up to more chipping but for the look of the car they should have done better.
In this economy I'm sure some good shops will work to paint on the stripes for a good price and may even equal out the factory stripe option price.

I think most of the dealerships will hire outsde installers for this, or have the bodyshop do it. I cant imagine them making a mistake on the application itself, hope the material they use is 3M quality...

There is another excellent option that I am considering that isn't mentioned here. You can have custom vinyl stripes designed and installed very inexpensively. Any color, any design you want. Most of these graphics places will design it on a computer and can show you various options on the screen. You'll get a very good idea of the finished look. Another advantage of vinyl is that if you don't like it, or it is damaged or you change your mind, it's fairly simple to remove or replace. IMHO this is a very inexpensive way to customize your ride. Yes, the edges will hold wax. But a quality shop should be able to do a beautiful job for you. It's unique for probably the same money as the factory stripes and these guys do it everyday. I work in the trucking industry and 99.99% of all trucks are now done this way. You've seen some gorgeous trucks out on the road?

That is what I am considering doing. Because I want the long stripes, but don't want to pay an exorbitant amount to have them painted. The vinyl should look fine, and like you said, they can be removed/replaced easily and cost-effectively.
