ride height aside, thats the first "on the street" photo I've seen of the 5th gen.I must say its refreshing next to the older car.I would definately buy one.(bigger mirrors fbodfather). Its a really good looking car and seems to remove all the things I've hated about my past 4th gens.Too bad it won't come till '08.

I agree. For starters, let's be honest here....the 4th gen looks least "like" a camaro than the rest of the gens. It is unique, so that is good, but the fact that it looks almost nothing like the other generations shows very little heritage as far as styling.

I would prefer 18 wheels over 19, tires for 19" wheels are kinda pricey.

Agreed. While I love my 4th gen, it doesnt have much related to a 1st or 2nd gen styline wise. It resembles a 3rd gen slightly. I think the 5th gen looks alot more like a traditional Camaro than the 4th gen, but thats mainly because it is styled after a 1st gen with lots of other influence in there.

the "grill" on the 98-02 mimik(sp) the 70-73. the rest has been a camaro trademark since 1982 (20 years!).so the styling goes over 3 gens. the 5th gen takes styling ques only from the 67-69 model and thats only 3 years.

Thats weird because there isnt much on the 4th gen Camaro that doesnt look like it was pulled from the 2nd or 3rd gen to me... Infact Im hard pressed to think of one major feature that didnt pull from them aside from maybe the spoiler

I'd have to say it looks like a combination of many, many traits from all 4 previous generations. (Can't remember who made this background but thank you!)

I always thought the grill on the 98+ were reminiscent of the early 2nd Gen.

The 93-97 were an obvious transition from the 82-92 front end (smaller grill and dual headlights). The 98+ were just a further morphing of the 93-97. So, imo, the 4th Gens have as much in relation to the other Camaro's as any other Generation.

The styling transitions from the 1st to the 2nd and 2nd to 3rd were no less drastic (and imo were more drastic in some ways) than the transition from 3rd to 4th. So I really don't understand those that say the 4th Gen was the least 'Camarolike'....

The change from 3rd to 4th, to me, had the most obvious similarities in front end styling. All the others were immensely different.

I know the 5th technically takes it's cues from the 1st Gen, but it's angular lines are VERY similar to the 3rd Gen whether it was intentional or not. Which is a good thing imo. As much as I like the 4th Gen's, the 3rd was the most 'muscular' and 'beefy' looking Generation (in it's last years anyway).

PS- It's 'mimic'.

thanks.

i don't see the angular lines as a third gen trait but a current cadillac styling trait. all i see in it is 1st gen as far as camaro traits go.

Re: Sits alittle high. Waddya think?

I think the 4th gen looks little like the rest because its so refined. Look at it, looks like a fighter jet interpretation, not a muscle car. Dont get me wrong, it was a good look in the 90's, but GM was late in their styling. Should have had that refresh introduced around 95-96 and not 98-02.
Each generation got sleaker with less muscle/more sport car, with the 4th being all sports car...but a little to late with its refresh and got boring. The 5th gen brings back that muscle car look, (just looks mean sitting still) that the camaro lost in the 4th gen.

Exactly. I've posted before all the styling elements that have been around the longest that the 5th gen ignores (tri-colored taillights, t-tops, tri-colored badge, etc...)

And for any of you that think there is any other gen in the 5th other than the 1st, think again. Twice I posted quotes from Ed Welburn stating that it's first gen only...

I wanted it to have a newer form vocabulary, the proportions needed to be a bit fresher, there needed to be a bit more gesture in the design.”
See whole article here. Funny no one replied to that post, hum.....

Second time was here (post 68):

Now please understand this, I am very happy to have the Camaro come back no matter what gen it is based on but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna say it couldn't be better.

The 3rd gen borrowed pretty heavily from the 1st gen for its proportions so I can see the 3rd gen in it. Also the squared off edges and general finishing of both the 5th and the 3rd are quite similar. Personally I see a lot of 3rd gen in the car, my favorite year.

Perhaps that is what it is: You see reflections and the traits of your favorite gen in the car. That is pretty cool and means the designers did their job PERFECTLY!

I agree. I see second gen 74-77 in the side profile of the nose. I had a 77 Z-28, had to add my own muscle in those days.
