What they should do is make it where you can change the color through the DIC like the gauges on the mustang. You have the standard colors that you can change on they fly and then you can custom blend the colors using RGB when you are parked.

Red is the best choice as it does not degrade night vision.

The ambient lighting will be blue unless you order the Inferno Orange Interior (then it will be orange).

Wait...then what is the 'body colored lighted trim kit'? Is that just the panels that are body colored and the lighting doesn't change colors?

That was a question I've been asking myself also. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that the lights themselves aren't colored. The accent packages snapping over the top of the lighting would seem to be an easier way to change the colors.

i think thats how it is. the panels on the door and dash are replaced with the colored pieces but i think the lights stay the same? im not sure on the lighting itself but what i heard is that the blue that comes as the origional color, is more on the white side. but i dont know. i hope we can do like the concepts from sema and change the lighting. after seeing the black concept i want to put black door panels in and red lighting behind it. that would be slick.

I don't know if anyone saw this picture on Chevy's web site.
Not a real picture, but at least it gives us an idea of what the ambient lighting looks like.

I was looking through the new 2009 GM Performance parts catalog.
Two interior lighting items are listed:
The first is the one we expected, but red is not included!
Interior Trim Kits
When ordering the factory illumination package you can personalize
the interior lighting color with parts, color-matched to the Camaro’s
exterior colors. Use them to complement or contrast your Camaro’s
exterior color for a completely custom appearance.
92221433 Interior Trim Kit, Scorch yellow (not shown)
92221438 Interior Trim Kit, Inferno Orange (not shown)
92233738 Interior Trim Kit, Olympic white (not shown)
92233739 Interior Trim Kit, Switchblade Silver (not shown
)

And the second one is this footwell lighting which I don't remember reading about.

Audio and Electronics
The new Camaro is more than the next-generation muscle car—it’s
also a technology showcase that offers the latest in convenience and
infotainment systems. You can take your Camaro’s technology to a
higher level with upgraded audio subwoofer and lighting systems, as
well as remote starting. Our audio system brings greater features and
capability, while a peripheral device interface module allows you to plug
in devices to play through the audio system. Remote starting allows
you to start your Camaro to let it heat up on a cold morning or cool
down with air conditioning on a hot day. Finally, our footwell lighting kit
delivers customizable, colored ambient lighting for a premium, hightech
interior appearance.

92213212 peripheral Device Interface Module (not shown)
92213222 Interior Lighting Kit, Footwell (not shown)
92213216 Remote Starting System, Factory-Enabled (not shown)

I wish I could see both of these before I try to order them.

I noticed the footwell lighting too, and wondered the same thing. I am thinking it must be some kind of upgrade to the lighting that comes standard in the footwell, maybe different kind of bulbs? Not sure, but we should find out soon.

i like how they say that the interior lighting is used to accent the exteriors color, yet they dont offer a RED which might be one of the more popular colors and color combos. i ordered black and i plannedon doing red black combo but its not even OFFERED. i can understand it not being standard but its not even offered. i dont think red stripes are even offered. red with black stripes and black with red stripes were some of the biggest color combinations in the history of camaro but its not even possible now unless you do it yourself.

Im sure if GM doesn't do red(or any other color) the aftermarket will probably have a (cheaper) solution.
