[Interior] Black Windshield Area - EZ Pass?

Black Windshield Area - EZ Pass?
So I've noticed that surrounding the rearview mirror mount, there's a blacked out area of the windshield. It extends a few inches either way and down probably almost a quarter of the windshield. Anyone know what that actually is for, and if I can mount my EZ Pass tag to the black part with it still working?

I'm not sure what it's for. I'd be interested to know, too.
Not to hijack your thread, but I was thinking of getting an eyebrow tint there & was wondering if I should get 1 strip all the way across & cover up that black area or 2 strips across the top splitting it at that section.

I always like the look of the eyebrow tint, but the friggin windshield has so little vertical space already I'd be concerned about further limiting the visibility. I have a fresnel lens made by a company called Light In Sight up there that lets me see traffic lights, but reducing it further would worry me.

Yeah, I know...I didn't have access to mine to view at the time.
I think that area is to cover up the part to the right of the rearview mirror that houses that black plastic box. I am not sure if it is OnStar or what. It is for outside appearance. If that black part wasn't there, the black plastic box would look ugly from the outside. To make it even, they just added the black part to the opposite side.
Putting the EZ pass on it and have it still work, I am unsure. Mount it here temporarily and see if it works.

If you want to tint your windshield, go with the Llumar Air Blue tint. And tint the entire windshield! It's a very light tint (78%), but it blocks 43% of the heat. Roughly the same heat rejection as a good 35% tint would provide.

That's illegal. If it weren't, I'm not sure the HUD would perform well against tint.
