AAC Footwell Lighting!

Ok so I already installed my footwell lighting a couple weeks ago and wired it to my dome light so that it comes on when the doors are unlocked or open.

I also wanted the option to turn them on when the dome light was off.

I pondered this for a day or two and finally came up with this.

In the first picture you can see I wired to the dome light.

I decided to wire a switch to the lights....but how to make them work with both the dome light and the switch without a three position switch. Well I installed a switch in the center counsel.

I then tapped the positive wires from the Footwell lighting and took them to the input on the switch. I also tapped the ground from the lighting and took that wire to the switch as well.

I then took a positive lead from the fuse box to the input on the switch.

The result is a success. The lights come on with the door open, unlock button pushed and with the dome light switch. With a simple flick of the switch I installed the lights stay on until I turn them off.

Very well done! How do you like the AAC lights? Happy with them?

Wasn't there a GMPP (or similar) kit once offered for footwell lighting?

I love the lighting. It really sets off the interior. I have the IOM trim and amber LED in the dome light. Couple that with the footwell lighting and soon to have the Dash Ambient lighting (when parts arive).

I am not sure about the GMPP. I got all my stuff (except dash trim lighting) from AAC. They make great products and are a true pleasure to work with.

If you move the drivers seat all the way back and lay on your back on the floor under the steering wheel with a flashlight you will see a wire block above the gas peddle. It looks like this.

The blocks are marked with gray, black, white, etc.

Look for the one marked gray and look for the gray wire coming out of pin 1. That is your target wire.

Ground is located in the middle if youremove the councel edging.

for the ground there is one on each side so don't worry about streatching the ground wire just wire to the respective side that is what i did.

Nice work! I have an Inferno Orange interior and that setup would look great in there!

Re: AAC Footwell Lighting!

I have the IOM interior as well. It does look awesome. Look into changing the Dome light to Amber LED bulb. You can get a set of two bulbs from AAC for liek 20 bucks I think. It will do your trunk and your dome to Amber LED's. It looks awesome when you have an IOM car and you open your trunk at night and the light is Orange instead of white.

There is more to come. i am currently working on some under the hood lighting.

Re: AAC Footwell Lighting!

Are you using any relays for all this lighting?

Re: AAC Footwell Lighting!

Hey! Let's talk Car Electronics 101.

When and why should you use relays, etc? What do they do?
