What do these switches do?

Havn't had my car for to long, maybe a month now, and I can't figure out what these switches do. A red one below the Cig lighter, and what appears to be a mechanical clock and milage counter... but they don't work, what are they supposed to do?

Pictures incase yall don't know what I'm talking about. Is the red switch factory? or was it added on? There is another switch on the other side of my steering wheel, but it was added on, probably for some type of alarm/kill or something. Would getting the clock to work be a matter of just fixing a wire somewhere? j or do they generaly not work?

Thanks!

The first one looks like something someone installed but I may be wrong.
What year and model is yours?

The second one is just a time date reminder thing. I have found usless except for marking when I fill up and the liters I purchased to calculate my milage. and well IT LOOKS COOL

As for you clock working check your fuses first. THen take out your radio and have a look. If the radio works the clock should if not you gotta pull the radio and have a look to see if the display is somehow disconnected.

As for the clock, I meant the Date/time thing above the "chassis" word in the 2nd picture I uploaded. I don't have a factory tape deck in, I ment the thing on the Roof, none of it works. Just a wire?

Oh, I have a 1986 Iroc-Z28

hm... is there any indication when it's switched on? I assume that it is in the off possition in the picture, am I correct? I have flipped it a few times, and nothing appears to happen :P haha!

Yeah thats what the red switch is rear defog.. Forgot about that. The date time thing like I said is useless other than for marking milage and appointments... and it looks cool

The red switch is for the rear hatch defrost "or it should be anyways"
And the overhead console dials are worthlessly cool They have to be manually turned. I use it for my when I need to put new oil in my car and when I tank up on gas.

That's what I use mine for.

And that red switch is definately not factory. That location was where the factory rear defogger switch goes. It could be used for anything... Or maybe the switch for the defogger went bad and the previous owner cheaped out

I agree with MARC. That is not a factory switch. I did not have the rear defog on my car and did the same thing. I put an after market switch in that location for my after market fog lights. I even have the same style switch??

Well chances are if someone went through the trouble of installing the switch that it is probably hooked up to something Pull the switch and follow the wires...
