Transmission Disengaging???

I just got my car out today for the first time in quite a while.... I drove it about 30 miles and then as I start up a hill at around 40mph in 3rd gear it starts to slip, I give it more gas and the rpms just raise with no gain in speed... feels like tranny is barely engaged, by the time I get to the top of the hill I can't get the car to move so I cost it into a ladys yard. When I let it sit for a few I get in and I can move it again, so I get it off the road a little more and go home to jump on the net with a friend to look for answers...
when I come back we're messing with the fluid and it seems fine. I was able to drive it home about a mile or so but I could tell it was slipping and wouldn't let me drive much longer had I lived further away

Can anyone help???

Sounds like you might be due for a transmission rebuild. Is the fluid dark, or does it smell burnt?

the fluid is red and it's brand new fluid... but yes, after having this problem yesterday I smelled it one of the times i checked the fluid and it smells burnt

what sucks is that I just spent everything I had on this build over the past few months and I don't have any money for a new tranny, nor do I have the money to have it installed or have the old one removed

Sorry to hear about that , I agree with Frank the trans is dead. Unfortynatley it happens alot the engine build is proceeded with and the trans neglected. Trouble is the trans has to take all that new power your making. Me personally I would always consider the trans and important part of may major performance build. But they are almost always forgottten till they die.

we knew the trans would die... and that I was going to have to get a high level trans.... but I never figured it would be in less than 40 miles... and with never dead hooking, never even reaching 5krpms.... I just figured I'd drive it around gently for a few months until I could afford one... lol... that worked out real well
