So whats the story w/ the Pirelli tires?
I've noticed them for a while now, but don't recall if we've ever had a talk about them. Goodyear has been on Camaro since at least the 70's I think, same as the Corvette. The ZR1 gets Michelin rubber now I believe, and now the Camaro is getting Pirelli. Did GM sign an exclusive deal for this, did GY back out, or what. These are the same tires that my Shelby GT-H had, not sure if they're on the GT's, but I think they are.
Anyone have any thoughts or info? Personally, I wish they would use GY GS-D3s, those things are awesome, and a pretty good price too.
DOH: forgot about the wheel and tire section

My thoughts/guess is that Chevrolet offered up criteria for a tire manufacturer to meet including quality, performance, and cost and Pirelli met the criteria the best.
For example, I know that the all-season tires had some very stiff requirements and what is on it would up having 80% of the same capability as a snow tire.

Those All-Season Goodyear GSC's that came on the 4th Gen Camaros and TransAms were the worst tire I've ever owned, bad performance on Dry, Wet and Snow. I'm glad Goodyears aren't coming on this one...

Never liked any set of GY's on any GM car I've ever bought with them down to the terrible F1 Supercars on the Z06. Pathetic tire for a great car. Frankly it's good riddance imo regarding GY and GM.

The summer Pirelli tires on the SS are not that much cheaper than GY!

I think they are very good performance tires...as far as getting much time/wear out of them, well that is a different story. Unfortunately with most very good performance tires, the rubber is sticky but the treads are not that deep, resulting in a short tire life.

got some bad news for you then. these pirelli summer tires that come on the ss are going to be 10x worse in the snow than the goodyears on the 4th gen.

Why do you think they will be worse?

Could be worse, we could get Firestones like I had on my old 1992 Ford Exploder...

Winters in the Midwest are harsh... I don't think you can compare tires in winter conditions because its not just the snow, there's also the awful roads below the snow

I already checked out prices on the Pirellis...they are over $400 for the 275's, and that is about the cheapest I have seen.

They should be about the same, they are similiar tires...I had my '98 SS in the snow once, and only once! Absolutely horrible, but then again the cars are not really built to be driven in the snow!

Yeah I'm not worried about snow here, I just take the bus. But, if they were not good in the rain/dry, you'd think they'd be okay in the snow. I'm just pointing out that they had no points that I considered satisfactory.
