Question How to 'boot' stereo when doors are unlocked?

I have a Pioneer AVIC-F700BT in my car now. It's a nice unit but it takes 30-40s to boot, so I was thinking if I connect the stereo to the light circuit that drives the interior lights it should boot when the car is unlocked.

The questions are:

Is this signal somewhere in the car side of the stereo harness?

And what do I need to do so the stereo does not shut off again when the voltage drops due to engine start? Are there any buffer power supplies that can drive it for the few seconds?

Thanks

Christian

it sounds like you just need to change the ignition turn on wire to something that is activated when you unlock the car, you may need to put relays in line with the ignition wire though

I always wire my radio with the ignition and 12v wires connected together to the 12v wire of the car. This way my radio works all the time.

Have never had a problem, as long as you take the radio's face with you to turn it off or remember to turn it off manually. Otherwise, you may come back to a dead battery.

Other than that, enjoy.

My stereo does not have a removable face plate and I tend to forget .

I guess I could have a relay that gets triggered by the interior light and held by the ignition. Then I just need to figure out how to ensure that the voltage doesnt drop too far when the starter engages...

thats gonna be the problem. If i remeber correctly the dome lights go out the moment you turn the key and the ignition circuit energizes like a second later. So its gonna re boot. If you wired it like a latching relay that stayed energized once you unlocked the doors, until you turned the car off.... Just get a remote start!

Hmmm... Thats actually not a bad idea, especially considering I wanted a car computer anyway, that also will have to be booted...
