LT1/LT4 Guys, Whats Your Race Weight?

I weighed my car a few months ago and it was 3420 without me, and I weigh about 225lbs.

The car still have both bumper supports, factory k-member, heater core and AC compressor (dash is coming out this winter), and even has both stock sway bars on it.

The goal is to get the car to weigh 3200lbs by itself. It is a 97 SS with leather, power, and T-tops. Do you think its possible? I'm sure it is, just wondering what other things you guys might go for?

I am thinking of going with a small Dynabat battery, and taking off the door skins to remove the inner support structure.

Any of the big ones I am missing? I am working on seats, well seat. Not sure what to do there yet, thinking Kirkey's.

Hey there....!, Your plans are the same as mine! As soon as I bring the car home from APE I'm tearing out the dash all of the HAVAC stuff vents everything. The carpet will be replaced with lighter weight carpet all the sound deadener is going byb-bye. I'm also doing the Kirkey seats, trimming the wiring harness Bumper supports, AC, Power steering,K-member, A-arms, Brakes, All the factory glass, and some other stuff! I'm trying to off set some of the weight gained from the new 9inch, Th400, and the full cage. Hope your car turns out like you want it.

Maybe all see you out at the track next year.

My raceweight is around 3640. I'm really not that willing to gut the car in search of a couple tenths. I can understand if I were going for some kind of record where every ounce counts but I'm too far away from being one of the fast cars to even consider it. I've removed the front swaybar, spare tire, tried skinnies, and removed the passenger seat on a couple occasions in search of that elusive 11 sec timeslip . Other than that, the car is a fully loaded t-topped Z.

Mine is ~3,900lbs (>4,100 with me on-board) . that's why even with >700rwhp it's not in the 9's!

I guess I just need more hp

Mine weighed 3640 with me and 5 gallons of gas in it.

I don't know where to cut more weight.. This turbo crap is HEAVY

No A/C
No Power Steering
Tubular K-member
Tubular A-Arms
No front bumper support
No Driver side airbag
No front swaybar
No back seats
Stock carpet
stock (formula) front seats
wolfe 6-point bar (soon to be 10)
9" rear
TH400

I need ideas to drop about 200#, and I can get radical

car diet

passenger side air bag and bracket is massive. You can then sell the pair of bags for about $500 to help you pay for your lightweight all aluminum brakes like Steve Quinn has. I think they are Wildwoods.
Get rid of power windows, locks, wiper motor and side impact bars in the doors and save about 60 lbs.
Then its time to really get radical and take the subs out along with stock speakers and stereo.

im at 3520 with me in it .. i weigh 160

just light wheels .. no front sway bar .. 1 cloth seat ... thats about it .. i guess the 12 bolt and the mcleod weight a lot more than stock parts

im thinking next year .. with an 8 pt cage and a 5 pt harness i wont really need airbags

what do both airbags weight and how much can i get for them !?? and i wont break my face if i get in an accident

That weight was without the subs but I'm always going to have a radio. I'm going to pull the passenger side airbag out when we finish the cage.. lightweight brakes would be sweet. I have to have functional windows (No A/C and living in Alabama), I heard that manual windows weighed about the same as power windows? thoughts? Getting rid of the side impact bars is a good one!

...must....go....to....bed......

My Firebird weighs 3320 with me in it and my Camaro weighs 3275 with me in it (It even has steel heads and hood!). Both are legal Stock Eliminator cars.

Best Regards,

Daren
